Anyone have any ideas about building a flag holder for the tower?

jeffr 02-20-2003 8:17 AM

Ty, <BR>Check with Trav at Wakeme.com.

Ask the billet aluminum KING OF THE WORLD. (That would be Pheaton.)

I was just looking at rod hodlers this morning in the new West Marine catalog. I was thinking about how to mount/convert them to work on towers. Only thumed through it for a minute... anyone want to presue that thought?

typhoon 02-20-2003 8:41 AM

that is the issue I am trying to figure out-the mounting...

jeff, <BR>trav at <a href="http://www.wakeme.com?" target="_blank">www.wakeme.com?</a> <BR> <BR>can you help me with that link or how I get to him? <BR> <BR>thanks <BR>

Here is what I came up with. I actually did the machine work part in my drill press. <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/54660.jpg" alt="flag"> <BR> <BR>Travis Farber <BR>Wake Me Products <BR><a href="http://www.Wake-Me.com" target="_blank">www.Wake-Me.com</a>

For the new boat since it is all Boss products. I had the dealer order an extra bimini clamp and will weld the flag tube to that. <BR> <BR>Travis Farber <BR>Wake Me Products <BR><a href="http://www.Wake-Me.com" target="_blank">www.Wake-Me.com</a> <BR>

typhoon 02-20-2003 9:33 AM

nice work. <BR>I was thinking about using a stainless muffler clamp but fastening it to that? will most likely have to be welded. what did you use for a tube?

phaeton 02-20-2003 9:35 AM

I purchased the tubing from a hardware store. Then all you need to do is weld the bottom up. <BR> <BR>Travis Farber <BR>Wake Me Products <BR><a href="http://www.Wake-Me.com" target="_blank">www.Wake-Me.com</a>

Here is a pretty simple one that we gave away in our Everything But The Boat contest: <a href="http://www.mako-ind.com/products/accessories.html" target="_blank">http://www.mako-ind.com/products/accessories.html</a>. <BR> <BR>However, I just got a flag that's got a thicker pole with foam padding around the end you hold. If I could get something like the above holder with a larger diameter tube, I think I'd be in business. The foam around the pole will allow you to get the pole in the holder snugly and eliminate rattling and such.

That looks great. thanks dave

One warning, check the rules with your local lake cops. <BR> <BR>I did with the State rangers. In CO, you're technically supposed to have a person "working" the flag to comply with the laws. As an aside, they said it was OK for us to do since they were local skiers/boarder anyway.

typhoon 02-20-2003 12:47 PM

wow. the mako flag holder was 70.00. for that i will zip tie a beer can on the ski pylon and put the flag in it...<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

leggester 02-20-2003 12:50 PM

Duct Tape. Used every trip to Powell ;)

bbeach 02-20-2003 12:51 PM

I agree Ty-one-on, I can buy a lot of Beer and gas for $70!

noquams 02-20-2003 2:37 PM

I purchased a bracket from Bimini Isle for 40 and am going to attach a stainless tube to hold the flag or I may just drill a hole the size of the flag like the Mako product. My issue with the mako product is I may want to move the bracket and have a different angle for the flag. The Bimini isle bracket is what they now use to hold the bimini. It even has a bolt hole. If there is interest I can take a picture of the final product.

Did anyone watch the "four chicks and a dude" video posted today in the general discussion? They had some kind of automatic flag holder popper upper thing. We don't need flags here in Texas but I thought the automatic pop-up was pretty cool.

susieq 02-20-2003 3:02 PM

That flag holder in the video is on Rod's malibu. It's pretty slick...there are a couple buttons on the dash that make it spin up or down. It's definitely not cheap though.

jumbojoe 02-20-2003 3:07 PM

susie, <BR>i saw that a couple years ago at boardstock. do you know who manufacutures it? <BR>thanks

phaeton 02-20-2003 3:42 PM

Here is a link to the auto one. It's like $700.00 buck or something radiculous like that. <BR><a href="http://hotbuddyproducts.com/powerflag.htm" target="_blank">http://hotbuddyproducts.com/powerflag.htm</a> <BR> <BR>Travis Farber <BR>Wake Me Products <BR><a href="http://www.Wake-Me.com" target="_blank">www.Wake-Me.com</a> <BR>

keithf 02-20-2003 6:38 PM

Chris, the Mako flag holder "hole" does rotate independent of the mounting bracket position. You adjust it to the angle you want, then synch it down with 2 set screws. I use mine as a permanent US flagholder - have it angled back. <BR> <BR>If in doubt give Brian at Mako a call - great guy, great operation. I did a tour of their place during a recent San Diego business trip. They have excellent stuff. No I don't work for them - I'm just a satisfied customer. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps! Keith.

phil_deez 02-21-2003 5:06 AM

Boss Accessories also has one of those power flags as well. Very similar to the hotbuddy's one. The power flags are expensive though.

aneal000 02-21-2003 6:25 AM

I heard of a guy putting a cheap automotive power antenna in his front cup holder (near where the front tower mount is) and hooking up an orange flag to the mast. I don't know any details, but that might be another way to go auto... just some more food for thought!

leggester 02-21-2003 6:52 AM

How about a simple one for $15.00? <BR> <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/54799.jpg" alt="flag">
