I sold my 5 year old A/C last fall and am about to order a new foil. I rode my friend's Sky Ski quite a bit last summer and really liked it which is why I sold my A/C. I have ridden a Shock tower once and didnt really like it but would have liked more time on it. Should I settle for the standard tower or go for the shock? There are some deals on new Air Chairs as well, are they any different than the old ones?

Rod, the new Air Chairs ride a lot better than the old ones. There are three modes for the rear wing, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. The Beginning or learning foil is like riding a heavily tuned and modified original Air Chair. The Intermediate foil is even better, makes sloppy landings much easier to land. The advance foil is a trip, I could never ride the ski like that. To quick and twitchy.

The Skyskis are just smooth and easy to ride. The standard ski without a tower is pretty light and rides well. I feel the advantage of the ST (Shock Tower) is comfort on landings. It’s easier on the back when landing hard or from a good sized jump/invert. There are a lot guys that go huge on the standard towers, I just prefer the comfort of the shock tower.

Don’t even get me started on the LE or LEX (extra 4 inches in the strut). These are the very light, highly tuned Skyskis that go for $4000. I have a couple of friends that ride with that own these. Little rich for my blood right now, but I will own one someday.

If you are looking for a better ride than the original Air Chair and don’t plan on doing huge jumps and inverts I’d say get the regular Skyski. You may find that it’s timing is more like the Air Chair, the shock tower requires a bit of different timing to jump.

I just started riding and got the shock tower on my skyski. I also had my dealer order adjustable foot beds on it so I can share it with my kids. This lets me put the foot beds in four different positions from front to rear. Was 2-300 more but it's only money.

That's right, the new Skyski decks have the adjustable inserts all ready in them. Plus they can be added to older decks.

There are other options to consider as well. Air Chair has a finely tuned and modified Stealth Air Chair they call Stubby. The footprint is closer so it allows for even quicker turning, without glitching during the ride, cutting out to the sides just like a good slalom ski. It's got the best pop, and gives quicker rotation to help you complete rotations easier. The longer the rope on a swing, the longer it takes to get it around. If you are on a swing with a shorter rope, you get higher much quicker. I believe it is the best foil on the market (so far) guaranteed...... And the cost will still leave plenty of money for GAS. Anyway, it has an even softer landing, and riders can get more air with even less effort. Add a booster seat pad, combined with the curved blades, and you get an even softer landing.
You want to be careful with having too much ski deck out in front of the little ones (kids), in a forward fall if feet are back too far it can catapult the rider, the board stops and rider keepsgoing. It's suggested to get an extra ski deck shorter, equipted with it's own bindings set for the kids, a seat tower is also prefered, or you can take the extra time and switch your's over for the kids, you can use the same foil.
Bambi, looked at the airchair web page and couldn't find any information on it.

You can read back through some of the posts on ChairChatter, (that's the chat page air chair has on their web site) they, people who have them so far, have talked about it on there.
I know, I need to get a dedicated page for STUBBY, I just need more time to do it. We are swamped, and the web page is something I work on when I can squeeze it in.
If you see the picture, you really can't tell the difference, unless you see it in person and have them side by side, but that 2 inches really does make all the difference. I know I go higher with it, and I'm just an average rider. When I "try" to get more air, it really goes BIG!!! Last year we had our friends from England visiting, and they have been riding for several years. After the first try on our Stubby, well you should have seen the smile on Ed's face. Regardless to say, they went back to England with a Stubby order. As did the guys from Germany. Hands down, they thought it was the best.

Bambi,

Why doesn't Air Chair just make the Stubby the standard Air Chair? It seems like a pain to have to send it back in to have it modified after paying a grand for it in the first place.

-Keith

Keith, Air Chair does sell it that way so you don't have to send it back, you can order it that way the first time. As well as all the other stuff Air Chair has to offer. Air Chair likes to give their customers choices. If someone finds a buy on a used Stealth, they can have that upgraded to a Stubby as well. Not everyone can afford to even have a new one, so there are options, just like when you buy a car, you can get a standard or a fully loaded with all the options. For what you are getting with a Stubby or a standard Stealth, the price should be a whole lot more, if you were to measure it by performance and quality the cost would far exceed what they are selling for. I have not checked lately, but what's the cost on a top quality wakeboard with all the goodies, they too have different price ranges as well as different options.

Hey.. best advice is to try both.. I've rode/owned both.. I'm happy w/the skyski, and would never go back.. Skyski really takes care of their customers, and make a great product.

ps- Everyone on this list who is supporting skyski is just a rider.. Bambi does work for airchair, I believe that qualifies as "biased" Not any sort of personal attack, just pointing it out..
