I was out this weekend and saw a family trying wake surfing of of a stern drive. I tried to explain to them how it was a bad idea but I dont think they took it to heart. They kept on going after I drove off. Anybody else seen this kind of thing? Is it really as bad an idea as I thought it was?

I think someone just died doing this not too long ago.

There were some pretty graphic posts last year about this topic, pics of chewed up fingers, hands, and arms.

Only sticking a knife in a toaster tops it on the stupid list.

very very bad. a guy on are lake tried it and had to have the prop removed from his gut at the hospital. don't do it you see some one doing it tell them to stop or contact the po po. after this guys incident the cops were all over every one with a tow boat.don't let some idiot make your life miserable.

My friend showed me a new prop system that mounts to the O/D instead of prop.It was developed for the Gov't.Can't remember name ,but it completely enclosed the prop making it impossible to get body parts caught in the O/D.Price wasn't that outrageus either

(Message edited by wakebrdjay on June 09, 2008)

Saw a few guys surfing behind an outboard this weekend, we tried to warn them as well, but they weren't hearing it.

just as dumb as a group of my friends teak surfing all night and none of them could figure out why they all had head aches afterwards.

Jay T,

They are jet drive conversions for shallow water use, common for river boats.

whats teak surfing?

wesley_is_wake 06-09-2008 10:38 PM

^^Teak surfing is basically where you hold on to the back deck while the boat is moving. It's definantly illegal. not a good idea either. It would explain the headaches because of the carbon monoxide leaving the exhaust from the back of the boat.

You can get prop guards/cages, surf life savers use them on their rescue boats here. Completely encompasses the prop, you probably couldn't even poke a stick in there.

They look sort of like this, but they're a tighter mesh.
