so i have had my eyes set on a 30d for some time now but due to getting my hours getting cut at work im thinking it won't be happening anytime soon and im now stuck in a lull of being ready to convert to digital from film. also how is canons refurbisment process as i was also lookinbg into that option

The 20D is a VERY capable piece of equipment. I doubt that it will hold you back from taking great pictures.

It's not the cost of the camera body that is going to kill your wallet....it's the glass. It never ends...there is always one more lens you just have to have and it only costs $700 (as opposed to the $1600 one you really want)

I was very happy with the 20D I had and unless you've got your head set on needing the added features the 30D has you might not ever miss them. IQ is for all practical purposes the same.

what are the min differences in the camera? i kno glass is going to kill me i already plan on at least getting the 70-200f4l for the camera and then maybe a 15mm for it also

swami 03-23-2007 11:20 AM

What is the diff between the 20D and 30D? Larger screen size on the 30D, but what else? Are the body dimensions the same?

-S

swami 03-23-2007 11:21 AM

oh yeah, the 15mm fish eye.. I had that and didn't like it that much. I returned it for the 10-22mm.

The 1.6x crop factor of the 20D and the 30D will reduce it to not very fishy.

-S

richd 03-23-2007 7:40 PM

I think Canon added spot metering and 1/3rd ISO stops to the 30D as well.

Get the 8mm Sigma fish for a 1.6X body.

littleblightie 03-25-2007 4:07 AM

Spot Metering was the only worthwhile feature added to the 30D... The 1/3rd ISO stops were a flop, and it ended up that the lower added counts were showing more noise than their higher 1/2 stop counterparts... IE/ ISO 125 was showing more noise than ISO 200...

The 20D will NOT hold you back, and if it does, you are of the standard of which someone will be paying you for photos, so you can afford to upgrade to a 1 series

thats what i needed to hear. now is it safe to buy a refurbished one from canon or should i seek out a new one?

swami 03-25-2007 7:19 PM

New ones are going for around $900. It's a question you'll have to ask yourself. I think the 1 year warranty makes it worth it.

wakeeater 03-25-2007 8:20 PM

yeah i hear canons pretty much no questions asked during that warranty too does any one kno somewhere to get a new one? ive been searching but no luck

swami 03-26-2007 8:06 AM
