just busted out my old tub and ripped out the sheet rock and installed a new tub and hardibacker for a new tile surround. also laying new tile on the floor with a new vanity and toilet. lots of work, this is the 3rd if done in my new house. ill be glad when its over.

We have been at for a few years already. Kitchen was done first. Put it where the living room used to be so I can have a lake view from the kitchen. This bathroom is actually where a bedroom once was. Laundry room is where old kitchen was. To say the least, my poor hubby has been busy. We are just very lucky to have a brother in law that is a tile contractor.

If it's not too late. Two things we did during our rennovations were: <BR> <BR>added an overhead rain head ( dual heads) I'm a shower snob now, lol. <BR> <BR>Make sure the controls are in a spot you can reach without getting wet to turn them on.

IMO the best item for a show is a thermostatic mixing valve. It gives you two controls, one for flow and one for temp. Allows you to simply turn the water on and never touch the temp (unless you want to modify a little bit).

Not sure if it is your thing or not or if you already have tile chosen but in our old house when we added on our master suite, for the tub surround and shower floor we used stream stones. Looked incredible and the texture was almost like a mini foot massage while you were showering. The only thing that I woulda done differently is to skip the body sprays. thought that I would use but never did so it was a waste of $$. <BR> <BR>Best thing we did in that bath was the heated floor.

LOL, salty, what are you looking to do, just the bath? i installed the electric heat in ours (mentioned above) Really easy to do, and even easier now that they come in "tiles"...

My father in law did his bathroom. He put floor heat in. It worked for a week then quit. Nothing much you can do to fix it unless you want to pull the whole floor up. He's actually thinking about do that too. <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> Sounds like the "tiles" thing would be a nicer way to go. If you lay the floor and break the wire for the heat, you're SOL.

Tony, <BR>That part has not been tiled yet. It is still floated in mud. It will be tiled tomorrow. <BR>The thing in the corner will be a tiled bench. <BR>The shower floor will be in one by one tumbled travertine. Like the stripe above. <BR>The rest of the bathroom floor will be in the same marble as the shower.

looks good. my friend is wanting to do granite counter tops in his home. im trying to convince him to go the route you did with the 12x12. i looks sharp. if you talk to your brother in law can you ask him what the smallest gap/spacing you can use with granite tile

Ok, I'll play a little.... <BR> <BR>Here's some pics of a little project I did. Bought a "house" 4 years ago, bit of a fixer. Step 1: Full outdoor kitchen, step 2) redo upstairs master suite, Step 3) re-do the rest of the house. Maybe 5% of the walls were not re-framed (long story). We hired about 75% of the framing (incl the big beams), the stucco, and the hvac ducting. Everything else I did, when I wasn't at my day job....oh yea, and we lived there during it all too. There was summer where this kept me off the water. Here are a couple pics of a small portion of step 3, showing our kitchen.
