the 80 SN is nice, love those gunnels, like giant bench seats, super comfortable boat, and the rope rub rails are cool(and easily updated with new rope)

srh00z 05-06-2007 2:29 PM

What is the wake like on the Hydrodyne's? They look like they have a lot of Nautique influence. I am going to be looking for an off season purchase this year and I am interested in these.

jon43 05-09-2007 12:49 PM

yes I installed a auto ballast system over the winter 4 bags 4 pumps about 15 min for about 1400#s
not the fastest but it sure beat 1 at a time. and at 20 mph the wake is clean and big

hyperlite1622 05-09-2007 8:42 PM

hey i got a 1990 supra sunsport classic and i was wondering if anyone knew where to kide some ballast or any ideas?

jon43 05-10-2007 5:46 AM

I have a 95 hydrodyne there is no were to hide it but I used quick connects so when we are not riding all I have to do is roll the bags up and put them in storage out of the way

maxx_wake 05-10-2007 6:32 AM

hyperlite1622, I have the exact same boat as you and I have 400lb sacks plumbed in on each side of the motor. I am planning on adding some 50lb sand bags under the bow and back seat soon though. I figure I can fit 3 bags under each side of the open bow plus another 1 in the built in ice chest for 250lbs up front and 1 bag in each of the 3 rear seat compartments. That will give me around 1300lbs total which is all I will ever need. This is going to eat up most of my storage but I think with the boards in the racks the rear locker and compartment behind the observers seat should be plenty of storage.

Also, in my last boat I built a custom bench to cover the sacks on the side of the motor so that might be an option if you want to keep it hidden.

maxx_wake 05-10-2007 6:34 AM

Oh yeah, If you wanted to save even more space you could order some lead from pop products. I am too cheap to do this so that is why I am using $3 sand bags.

maxx_wake 05-10-2007 3:53 PM

You might be able to get some weight in the rear storage area but I think you would need to reinforce it, The gas tank is directly below the plastic compartment. At least that is how mine is.

Here is a picture of mine before I added the racks which I think really helped fill out the tower.

Donald- No i havent run any ballast in it yet, Sometimes i have it full of people, i have two batteries in the front, an amp, and a very heavy box for two 10" subs. I'm gonna order some of the pop-products bags to fill with either sand or lead to move around for now.

Tell me how it goes with side sacks, i should have them by now but i'm broke. maxx_wake 05-11-2007 6:19 AM

Kevin, see my post a little ways above where I posted the picture for how I weight my boat. My trim plate isnt adjustable but I have the bars cranked up a little bit so it is bent slightly upward. I think I have the left side bent up just a little more than the right side which helps to clean up both sides of the wake. Or it could be the other way around, I cant really remember. With that being said I dont think the hull of my boat and the 23 footer are very similar so your set up might need to be completely differnt than mine.

maxx_wake 05-11-2007 6:21 AM

Jon, how hard was it for you to remove the rainbow stickers? Any tips? I have about half of mine off using a heat gun and goo gone but it has been a real pain so far.

dh03r6 05-11-2007 7:29 AM

chris that seems to be the best way to do it, it took me forever. i did find if you peel off the sticker the let the adhesive sit it will dry out and you can scrape it off with a flat plastic surface.

denverd1 05-11-2007 7:42 AM

Jon, I'd go with black. would tie in well with your windshield and racks. Did you put the tower on or did you buy it like that? clean boat.

denverd1 05-11-2007 7:45 AM

Good lookin boats guys. need to get the tower back on mine, she's still in the garage. new prop should be here next week!

maxx_wake 05-11-2007 12:13 PM

Ok thanks, I was hoping you had a simpler way but I guess it is back to the elbow grease method. haha.

You probably already know this but the way I read the add on those graphics is that the lettering only comes in the blue color shown and you can choose the background color. Just fyi in case you were thinking about different color lettering.

(Message edited by maxx_wake on May 11, 2007)

maxx_wake 05-11-2007 12:16 PM

Disregard my last post about the stickers. I went and looked at it again and it turns out I am an idiot.

jpshaff01 05-11-2007 1:34 PM

Chris- yeah i read the sticker thing the same way too. But yeah the best way to get the decals off is probably heat and the 1 1/2 inch plastic scraper from the hardware store, just get like a 1" section big enough to pull at a 90 degree angle. I used a hair dryer at some point and heated a length of it to get it to peel evenly, you'll get better at getting bigger sections off at once lol. The key is not heating it too much so it will all peel off with most the adhesive too. Some of the stripes are easier to get off. The sun is your friend, if you get one side of the boat baking in the sun they will come off way easier and you won't have to heat it. (But those are the days you usually wanna use it)

Nacho- yeah i think i will go with black i was in between. My boat came with the tower, its called a typhoon tower. The only thing i like about it is the way the boards sit in the racks on a downward angle.

hey chris, i have a very similar boat. when i bought it they called it a "92 Spirit" couldn't find a 92 spirit in the book but the deal was right and everything checked out. i took off those oh so masculine pinkish purple decals and put the tower on. gonna get to refinishing the gelcoat soon.

maxx_wake 05-16-2007 10:43 AM

cool man, looks good! I wish I had gone with the polished instead of the black tower. I really like the looks of the black but the powder coat/spraypaint on that tower is really crappy. Other than that it is an awesome tower for the price.

I like the look without the stickers. Mine is still a work in progress. A few more hours and I should have them all off. lol.

Do you run any ballast in your boat? If so what is your set-up?

seansmitty42 05-16-2007 10:56 AM

i love older boats with towers its like puttin big wheels on hotrods i love it

ryansgt 05-16-2007 3:04 PM

actually just ordered a lp sofa 1200lb and a captains chair 250lb for up front. i need to play a bit with the weight. not sure how much it will be able to take.

(Message edited by ryansgt on May 16, 2007)

maxx_wake 05-17-2007 5:32 AM

Cool, I have a 400lb V-drive sac on either side of the motor and the wake is actually pretty nice with just that but I am hoping to add another 500lbs in sand or lead sometime soon. I think the boat should handle the weight you are talking about just fine but you might need a little more than the 250 up front if you are running 1200 in the back.

ryansgt 05-17-2007 8:35 AM

yeah, i was thinking so too. the problem is the area under the bow doesn't fit any fat sack dimensions under the seats and i don't really wanna lose all my bow seating. i will probably have to just fill the sofa partially until i find a solution. either that or just invite some of the ballast level girls along for the front. heh

Thats by far the sweetest 2001 ever. To see the pictures from when you first purchased that boat, to where it is now is amazing. I hope to one day get my 2001 to the level yours is at.

ryansgt 05-17-2007 2:43 PM

i am gonna have build a carpeted wall to cover the back after i remove the seat. also need something to mount the pad over the rear locker to. i think a plywood wall cut to the dimensions and marine carpeted will work fine. i like the idea of slamming this old girl because it has a nicely shaped wake.
