custom surf boards

what is the usual expected wait time to get one made? how long did you wait?

I had a custom soulcraft built last summer and Jeff had it at my front door sixteen days after I placed the order. If you decide to go with soulcraft just let Jeff know what sort of time frame you need the board in and he will do his best to help you out.

I just started an email thread with Jeff at Soulcraft. I am overseas for the winter, so I told him to take his time. He is great to work with!

wow. 16 days. my buddy ordered one, not from soulcraft, 11 weeks ago and still doesnt know when it will be here.

Do you mind telling us who he ordered it from??When you deal with soulcraft you talk with Jeff the owner who hand shapes the board himself. He is a great guy and is fun to work with.I know some of the other company's don't do their custom boards in house they have different shapers spread across the U.S. make the boards for them so the experience of having a custom board made is not as personal.I am sold on soulcraft and will be a life customer as long as Jeff is making boards

In simple terms all custom surfboard (not necessarily wake surfboards) manufacturers strive for a 2 week completion time (then add about a week for packing and shipping, if all goes well). Special orders can even be turned around in less than a week, and technically any competent shaper/manufacture can complete a board start to finish in 1 day (if all the materials are right there). However, the board will be weak having not had all the cure/post cure time necessary, whether epoxy or polyester/vinylester resins are used. 'Modern' epoxy/polystyrene boards require more time, both shaping and laminating. There are simply more steps involved and longer cure times and considerable temperature sensitivities for the epoxy resin. Add in complicated spray (paint) or print graphic art, or technical fabrics (carbon, kevlar, etc.,),or veneer laminates, special traction or fins, and the completion time will go up.

All and all, a custom board shouldn't take longer than 1 month once you and a manufacture have agreed on a price. However, delays can occur due to many factors. Everyone is relying on someone else (and some people do go on vacations), be it a foam manufacture, fin manufacture, graphic artist or print house, etc. Your average board has 5-6 primary components, none of which come from a single manufacture.
