That was sick... It was actually a kgb 5, you just had to watch the whole video- He went moby 5 then did a kgb 5. Very nice

travis_briscoe 08-16-2010 8:10 PM

so good, loved it!

The guy that posted it was on New Pollution. He is pretty good too. His dad built him an a frame slider that goes up and down out of the water. Pretty sick. Its all based on cables and a winch I think.

The level of riding in Jr. Pro Men's is insane. Mobe 5s are the norm. Many of the Jr. men riders are throwing Back 7s. 9s are becoming common.
Consider this: In Pro Men in Knoxville, Harley won with Toe 9 and Heel 9 off the double up. The third place Jr. Mens rider landed toe 9 and Heel 9 off the double up. I am in no way saying that the Juniors are better than the pros, but I am saying that the progression in Juniors over this last year has been nothing short of incredible.

Congrats Mike on that KGB 5!

Stomped! Awesome riding, and the wake was a monster!

I will remember this thread forever where Joe Umali was officially wrong, lol!

Peter, I agree that the Jr. men's division continues to progress every year, but 9's and mobe 5's are not new in that division and have been landed in Jr. mens for years. Congrats to Josh on this top 10 finish this year. He has a bright future ahead. :)

Peter, it has always been that way. Back in 1999, I rode Jr Men's and there were just under 100 riders at Nationals. Harf won with a run that is probably still strong performance in the pro division today and the ride of the tournament came from Mark Kenny (Jr Men's) in the semi finals--He smashed a head-high Air Front Backside mobe. To this date, I have still never seen that trick done off the wake, double-up, kicker or cable (maybe cable) by anyone else.

Agreed, these tricks have been around for awhile. All I'm saying is that more and more of the kids are doing them. In Colorado, one quarterfinal heat had three out of the four riders doing Back 7s wake to wake. That simply hasn't happened until now. Mike Dowdy twice this season threw Crow 5 and Back 7 and did not get out of his heat. Nick G landed several Heel 9s wake to wake this year. Nobody has done that in Juniors before.

As for Mike Dowdy's KGB 5, I don't think anyone but Harley has landed that in a contest. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike threw it this weekend at Worlds. That one in the video was stomped clean!
