hey i was looking to upgrade to a 04 substance from a 03 parks 138. i ride the parks finless but feel like its too inconsistent. what i was wondering if i should go bigger in size to 142. i'm 6' 2" and weight 170.

oh and i really don't have any chance to demo any boards around me and i figured that substance would work best for me

im 6'1" and weight 180 and i ride a 2005 substance and love it. i went from a 2003 143 byerly and it was night and day.

keep the 03 byerly it is probably one of the most desired shapes to date....

Kellan, you don't know what you're talking about. <BR> <BR>I rode a byerly 137 before I got on my substance, and the differences where the consistency of the pop and how it popped. They both seemed to pop just as hard, but the Substance felt like it just floated as where the byerly would go up, travel straight over the wakes, and drop straight down. The Substance edge is also easier to figure out. It rolls on smooth, and it rides a bit lower in the water, but it felt a tad faster to me. I love it. I thought I liked the byerly but once I got on the substance I was like, "that board is crap."

all i said is its a good shape and lots of people like it.....i like it but thats my preference...just because you dont like it doesnt mean its a bad board.....different strokes for different folks.....calm

Or the Byerly finless? Those were decent. Much better than the later shapes.

my neighbour has an 01 and i have an 04....and as much as u may or may not like it....it is one of my faves IMO....but i like alot of boards.....

thane those are the differences I found between the substance and the byerly as well and to add one thing, the substance is less grabby (both without center fins). I like how the substance is more loose and has more forgiving landings, there were a few times riding the byerly where I would almost catch an edge for no apparent reason <BR>the finless byerly from 00 I like...

Duane - yeah those cupped rails on that '02-'03 byerly shape are a mutha.

thane... unrelated to the substance debate, but did you get your torn bindings waranteed? I havent been home from school to snap any pix of mine to send to buywake to see what they can do, mine were ripping in the heel like you described...

no I haven't. I think I'm just gonna ride 'em 'til they break. I haven't been riding at all. Tore my ACL on 8/20.

THE DIFFERENCE I FOUND IN THE TWO BOARDS WAS THE SUBSTANCE WAS FASTER CUTTING IN AND IT WAS WAY LIGHTER. LIKE THANE SAID, THE POP IS MORE PREDICTABLE. IT DEFINATELY IMPROVED MY RIDE.
