Oldtimer here that has been skiing his entire life and never gave wakeboarding much thought. Now that I am getting older, can't quite get the shoulder on the water like I use to and when I do I hurt for days. Friend talked me into trying his board and I have to say I fell in love with the sport. Question is, what is a good board for a newb that can slalom, skate board and surf with the best of them? Want something I can learn with but not outgrow to fast. No 180's, blindsides or big air in the future, but love the cuts, clearing the wake, and learning to do some spins and slides.
Specs: 6'4" - 240lbs.

Hmmm, haven't got much advice on boards, but don't expect to not get hurt with the wakeboarding - there are plenty of posts on here with people talking about all sorts of injuries. I'm sporting a stiff neck from a major stack on Sunday.
By the way there's a specific forum for equipment.
Pete

Liquid Force Omega, 143.

Start with the main three: CWB and Liquid Force and Hyperlite. They all make tons of boards for all levels and budgets.

I would look in the mid 140's for a board.

One thought is to look at CWB's Tattoo 143. Good intermediate level board.

And welcome to wakeboarding Brad!

Thanks Mike
Was looking at the Hyperlite Premier and the Liquid Force Trip. Both in the 140ish lenght. Haven't looked at the CWB's. Good boards?
Any thoughts?

Cwb make the best boards for youre dollar! try the tatoo 143 or the trancend 142 or the flame 141. You will be happy with all three.

I'm not going to recommend a particular board because everyone here knows by now that I'm CWB biased. I will however recommend a board feature that you should seek out. Boards with molded fins are very nice for beginners and those looking to progress. They basically lend themselves to smooth riding and are the best feature of a wakeboard in my opinion. Hooray molded fins!! Good luck & welcome.

the omega is the jam! rode the 143 the other day and I was blown away on how it rode better than my substance(did I just say that?) Ok maybe equally as nice. But seriously thane is right. My fat friend rode it and he even commented on how he liked it as well. Also the 145 state is a good board but maybe a little too tech for a geezer lookin for snappy soul turns.

I have the Hyperlite ERA 147, and love it

Liquid Force trip.... the biggest one. Has four plastic outside cupped fins..... allows you to slide the board around on the water easy but the board also tracks with the best of them.. This board also allows you to progress as far as you want, half of the Liquid Force boards are origninally based off of this design.

Other then that..... Liquid Force Omega and Hyperlite Motive. All boards in the 140ish range. For the Liquid Force go with the Alpha bindings.. Thane Dogg knows a good package. For Hyperlite try Any of the bindings, the upper end bindings.
