So I am a bit behind but catching up. My photo library is about 1 Terabyte in size doing an upgrade killed it and it took me almost a week to restore and organize to make sure it wouldn't happen again.

Last weekend the Z3 played chase duty because it was a special day on Lake Oroville, especially for the Harringtons. Rob and Janelle Harrington came to the last 2 polar bear events and have been demoing boards and boats and really becoming a major part of our local wakesurf community, and also becoming great friends. Its funny, because if I remember right, we met them on the dock one day when they recognized us from videos and asked a few questions. They were struggling with their wake and I could see needed some big help in the board department. So we lent them a couple of boards and just told them to drop back off in our slip when they were done, they seemed trustworthy enough. It was a good call, because Rob and Janelle were an incredible help at the West Coast Wakesurf Open and its so cool to see our local wakesurf community grow. And hey, they didn't get scared and run away when we introduced them to Frank, so they fit in great. ;-)

So on to their new 2012 Supreme V226, California Marine Sports was able to get them a great deal and they are ecstatic. The 226 makes a great wake and on both sides. That is VERY important to them because Rob is regular footed and Janelle is goofy and I can't tell you which one of them loves to wakesurf more. They are both equally excited and love to wakesurf. I know that Rob would get giddy when Janelle would tell him "we need to go test those boats so we can have our own". He would giggle like a school girl. They have had a great time behind our Z3 but the Z3 is a bit out of their price range and the 226 is a great value. I told them what I tell anyone looking for a great wakesurf boat, the 226 is a world class wake, but make sure you get it from a great dealer like Grant from CMS that will stand behind the boat and fight for you if anything goes wrong. So anyway, we got some great pictures of the boat and the wake on that day, check em out.

At wake9, our ritual is to get out past the 5mph, and pull over this spot just past the bridge and get out and get wet. Every time I do it, I come up from my dive in and my head comes out of the water and I am no longer thinking about work, or stuff, just having fun with my family. Something about the water, you know? So this picture is us doing just that and also commentary on the fact that many of spend way too much money on what spends a lot of time as a really expensive diving board for our kids.

RJ has ridden the 226 before, but this is the first time that we were out and he could adjust and tell the driver to make changes and really get comfortable. At first he felt the lip was soft and he just couldn't get the air he wanted. He was able to adjust weight and speed and he got the wake to a place where he really liked it. RJ has blogged on it on our site but basically his thoughts are that he can't launch as well, but can land better. The 226 makes a great wake/transition for landing, and is superb for coming down but likes the shape and lip on the RZ2/Z3 when it comes to launching and getting higher. This is a complete subjective preference of course, demo them all by someone that knows how to weight them, and see what you think. That said, he still got great air, but just not quite what he normally gets.

Dennis got out and did his thing on the same 4'9" Bomb Pop that RJ rode, that board is fast, versatile, very forgiving, and has a LOT of pop to get you in the air. Dennis can ride this board almost as far back as his big yellow goofy board.

Here is Janelle setting up for a gun show. She got a lot out of her clinic with Sean Cummings. You can always tell a Cumming's student when they throw the gun show. That is the smile of a new boat owner enjoying a great day wakesurfing with family and friends.

This is RJ on the 4'5" 2012 TWP Signature model. It is identical to the bomb pop, only it has the traditional signature tail, where the bomb pop has a wider tail, otherwise identical. RJ felt the signature and the bomb pop were both as fast or faster than the original flyboy and yet, more forgiving. RJ actually purposely tried to overweight the front of the board on the 4'5" signature to pearl it, and it didn't go down. We both suspected that that the 4'9 sig and bomb pop would be better for him to ride with his wide stance, but he had no problem nose diving on the 4'5" signature. I compare to the original flyboy because the flyboy and these boards are both evolutions from same TWP signature.

Rob's turn. In most groups the boat is regular all day and then goes goofy, but in our group its the opposite. Rob is a true host and makes sure everyone gets a great ride first. If you ever get a chance to ride with the Harringtons, go for it, they are going to take care of you. And tell them ahead of time to bring the chicken.

You can't tell, but Rob is very animated and I call him "Yee-hah" Rob because when he gets out and surfs he is always screaming "Yee-hah" or yelling "this is so much fun". He yelled a bit louder, and smiled a bit more this day, because he was riding HIS boat.

At first I saw this and wondered what the hell Janelle was doing. She is one of those stealth bikini changers and she was using the storage compartment to change out of her bikini and now she is wiggling out. She had her head out the whole time, and it was pretty funny when I figured out what she was doing. I hope Jesse was guarding on the other side cuz someone could have been in for a surprise. ;-)

I love to see more Supreme V226's hitting the surf scene...in my book, it's one of the most underrated boats out there! If you want to have a killer wave on both sides without having to put ANY sacs on the seat, more room than you know what to do with (Janelle's not the first person to use the compartment as a 'changing room' ;)), and be out the door for under $65k with boat/trailer/stereo/ballast system, this is THE boat for you!

Robert. Great job chronicling this momentous occasion for the Harringtons. Also, thanks for bringing another family into the wakesurf community. I really believe that the more who learn to wakesurf (and learn to do it properly) the better off the sport will be in the long run. Congrats to Rob and Janelle. And let this be a lesson to all the guys.....If you get the wife hooked on wakesurfing then SHE will be the one wanting to go boat shopping, demo new boards, and add more sacs.;)

We were out all day on Saturday with the harringtons and the wolters and dennis and I took 1700. I spent a few hours helping another family that ran out of gas and left the camera with the others or I am sure I would have been well over 2000. I have a pretty good workflow for getting through them, and I love looking at pics and video.

@vman Yes, I would say that is the moral of the story, get your wife hooked, get a boat. They are def doing it right, good boat, good boards and ready to help/teach anyone else on the lake.

Toni, Christopher, and myself were very Excited and Happy to be invited to spend the weekend at the Harringtons and get to ride behind their Awesome New Supreme and Surf our butts off!! I have great video of Mr Rob spining back to back 360s .... video and pics of Rob tandem surfing with his daughter!! Robert and his Family with Dennis were right there all day Saturday with their Awesome Tige!! Chris has been working on a Video from his riding this past weekend alone!! We have been Blessed to have the Garcias as great friends and now we get to add the Harringtons as well!! Dinner at the Harringtons with the Garcias was as fun as ever and the Food was just as Great!! My favorite moment of the weekend was in the middle of my hour and a half ride ..... when 15 minutes in we had a 2 Boat 3 Family Swimathon for over an Hour!! Diving Contests to relays to paddle races .... what a Blast!! The Harringtons Rock and they are as Nice and Gracious as People can be!! Big Congrats to them on their new boat and especially how happy they are with it!! Lucky for us the Summer is just starting!!

Met Rob and his wife last year at Polar Bear, saw them again at West Coast Wakesurf Open and can't be happier for either of them! Congrats on the new boat and hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

Robert - I noticed you mentioned you guys kicked it up to 11.6-11.8 mph and the wave got longer and RJ liked it more...we normally ride at 10.8 mph and really love the wave.

Can you describe what the wave did when you sped up, other than get longer? Was the wave still as clean as the lower speed, or was there more "froth" kicked up by the prop?

Did you add any other weight, other than the sac in the rear compartment (which I'm guessing was around 1000 lbs)?

Nice looking boat and surf wave! I second ragboy's comments regarding the speed of the 4'9" Bomb Pop vs Flyboy. I rode a Flyboy and my 4'9" Bomb Pop back-to-back last week and for my size, there's really no comparison, the Bomb Pop is a lot faster. Key there is my size...I weigh about 190 right now.

I'm pretty sure the boat though doesn't have that much factory ballast, so I didn't really expect it to. We then filled up a fat sac in the corner locker, 400 pounds of led on the side under the seat, and people weight which included Dennis Horton, Jenelle Harrington, Rob Harrington, and miscellaneous kids around the boat. We started this surf session at 11.4.

I was really impressed with the wake. It was definitely much different than the tige wake that I ride all of the time. At 11.4 the length of the wave felt not quite as long as the z3 or rz2, but it was by no means short. However we speed up to 11.6 and 11.8 later in the day the wake lengthened waaayy up, and didn't lose too much push. The supreme has a decent amount of push also, more than a other boats I've been on.

The transition was definitely the main difference between the two waves. The wake appeared to look like the tige wave however the transition was MUCH different. The z3 wake is a steeper wake by default and has a real solid lip that is awesome for launching. The supreme had a much shallower transition. When I say steep and shallow, I mean the angle the wake makes with the flats. A steeper wake will have a higher degree of angle against the flats vs a shallower wake with a lower degree of angle against the flats. |_ = a stepper wake. \_ = shallower wake. Because the supreme had a shallow transition it made it very easy to do spins and stall 3's on the wave. The board has a nice shallow ramp to come down off of. The wake's lip though was harder to find. It's similar to the centurion where the lip is farther back on the wave. The supreme's selling point isn't its lip though, it's the transition. That's kind of how it is with boats. You get one or the other. A boat with a steeper transition usually will have a killer lip where a shallower wake won't, yet a steeper wake will be more difficult ride down compared to a shallower wake. A simple way to compare the wakes is like this: steeper wakes are great for going up, and shallower wakes are great for coming down.

So it all comes down to personal preference of what you want from your wave...and how much $$ you got in the bank . Some people prefer a shallower wake and others prefer a steeper wake for the reasons mentioned above. I hate to keep raving on about the z3, but I feel like it has the perfect balance for my taste. The RZ2 has a steeper wake than the z3, and it always maintains that shape no matter what amount of weight you put in the boat. The supreme seems to be on the other end of the spectrum. It's a shallower wake, and seemed to stay shallow no matter what amount of weight you put in it. We didn't get much time to play with different weight settings though, so someone who is more knowledgeable about the supreme may correct me. I feel like the z3 is right in the middle of those two boats. It also has more adjust ability than other boats. You can play around with the weight and speed to really dial in what type of wake you want.

That concludes my almost coherent thoughts on boat wakes and transitions. I don't mind a shallower transition; it's all fun and games, but if I had to choose, I'd go steeper, but that's just me.

Their family's help and friendship has really helped us make some, what we feel, has been good decisions. I also want to thank Grant and Tammy at Cal Marine Sports for helping us get into this Supreme!

Over the past two years we have been fortunate enough to try multiple boats and boards. We have been to two of the polar bear events and played with combos of boards and boats. Centurion 211, 233,244, Sanger /230, Tige 24ve, Rz2, Z3, Supreme 226, Malibu, and a MC. All the boats are fantastic in one way or another. I really don't think the industry has come out with the "perfect boat". Some are great on one side while a couple are good on both. On Tuesdays this one is better if the moon is full and Thursdays with 3/4 a tank of gas this one rocks.

With that said, I love our Supreme! The room is fantastic, I like the deep freeboard, and the wake on either side makes me smile! So far we have had kids from 6&7 years old surf, other kids knee board, some fantastic surfers (RJ & Chris), some very experienced riders (Dennis & Frank), and some goof balls like Dan A. and I. All I know is everyone has seemed to have a good time. It just offers so much.

The set up is the stock ballast in the back (300 lbs).
A 1100 lb sack on top of that as full as we can get it. (Inside the compartment.)
400 lbs of lead along the side under the seat.
Stock center tank full. I think it is about 500 lbs.
Same on both sides except for the trim tab. Goofy side seems to be about 1/4 to 50%. Regular side seems to be 50 to 100% down.

@rob your welcome and well said. I wasn't in the boat, but from chase it seemed like a good weight setup, enough to get the rub rail down and get a great wake, and not too much to look or feel unsafe, just my 2 cents.

Nice response, RJ - I like your I_ vs \_ reference! - I definitely agree with your description about the V226 wave transition...it's just super smooth and not as extreme of a face to come down (especially for the ladies that we ride with). I've never ridden behind a Tige, but your videos tell/show the story of how much steeper it is! I can only imagine the pop you can get off that wave?

It is totally awesome to see your family out enjoying your new Supreme. I had the pleasure of meeting the Harrington's at the west coast open and knew right away that they were true ambassadors of the sport. They both had a grin from ear to ear during our brief surf set in their boat even before it was theirs. Any how welcome to Team Supreme and we look forward to Sking ya again soon. @ Charlie, thanks, Grant told us about the help! The boat has exceeded our expectations and we thank you! I am glad that when we test drove it you were able to ride as well. That is just one more smile the boat has helped create! I was truly amazed during the test drive how you the driver at first was able to set the cruise control and with an empty lake could let go of the wheel and sit along the back of the boat and it would track straight as an arrow. Just like there was an autopilot. It was an impressive site. A testament to the handling of the boat.

One thing we did do on the boat is put a 1433 prop on it. The initial rpm on the pull is seldom over 3100 and settles to 2700 ish when surfing.

Man I love this sport and the community associated with it!!! It just keeps getting better!

@rob Rob, you know that's not a plane right? Don't turn on the "autopilot" and then go in the back of the boat to get some chicken with the family, ok? You're scaring me man. ;-)

We camped right next to the Harringtons, at the WC open. We were able to meet them. Like always everyone we meet at these things is super nice! Congrats to their new purchase! Just in time for summer. See you next year at Camp Far West! I expect to see your 226 floating next to my Avy!

Hey Rob,
Tried sending a PM, but the PMs dont always work as expected on WW. was wondering if you still run the same ballast setup as posted above, or have it more fine tuned? My friend has the same boat...actually same colors too. We are over here in Mendocino Co and was seeing if you still use lead or have a plummed bag under the port seats. Im also assuming that you plummed in the 1100 bag into the existing system too? Tab is still 80-100% down while port?

WakeDirt, well nothing has changed. We still use the lead. The plumbing of the bags in the lockers should be done this month. We didn't want to take her off the lake long enough to do the plumbing of the sacks. CMS will be doing it soon. The trim varies a bit but usually between 75 to 100 is where it tends to settle. Are you guys happy with your ride? I am still smiling just thinking about it. Couldn't be happier! Let me know if ya ever wonder this direction.

-226 still has a great stock wave, just wanted to have it at it's greatest potential! I'll let my friend know the setup, thanks.
- I havent looked at how the plumbing is in the 226, my MB is very straight forward and was crazy easy to to plumb in.

So I was skimming through some wake 9 footage and noticed that at 5:30ish while your Supreme is towing, there is a "dark flap thingy" moving around in the lower corner of the frame, near the deck of the boat...at first I thought swim deck...but it seems to be moving?? This may have been asked before, sorry if I am re-threading

I can't wait ride behind The Harrington's 226 again! Such a solid wave and the best looking V226 I've seen yet.

WakeDirt, that is on the Z3. It was referred to as the mud flap. They were experimenting with a device under the deck to help with some of the spray and wash on the wake. You got to love how Wake9 is always trying to tinker. Some ideas work well, some .... well they sound good at the time. Even when they don't work so well it is fun trying them! But they are always thinking about ways to try to improve the sport. I like that!
