Found this thread at tigeowners and thought a few would appreciate it here.

glad they stuck with it, I saw that thread a few years back and figured it would never actually happen. Wish it wasnt in an X80 though, X2 or Xstar would have been way cooler :)

thats sweet, I have bought a lot of stuff for my Duramax from those guys...
|
Jeeez How many tower speakers can you put on a boat? With a engine like there planning on putting you could definitely put a ton weight in that boat for surfing.
|
There was a guy who put a yanmar 6 cyl diesel in an 04 xstar or so a while back. I am not sure why any person would go to the trouble of marinizing a duramax when cummins, detroit/mtu, yanmar, cat, etc.. all have marine diesels already unless the duramax will be a lot cleaner running. That said it sounds like these guys are a company trying to start a business producing a marine duramax.
I absolutely love the idea of a diesel wakeboat. I would think the smaller wakeboats might be able to run a 4 cyl and the bigger ones on a 6 cyl. With the torque those things have you should be able to run a ton of weight. In something like a G23 you could probably get away with a 250-300hp 6 cyl with a ton of torque. |
As for speakers the stereo guys would love it. You don't need to worry about being UL coast guard approved and could drop in a 240-270A alternator. No need for huge battery banks.

Sick speaker setup, and one bad ass x80!
|
They Specialize in Duramax performance products and getting serious HP out of them. I think one of their race trucks puts out like 800 hp or so. Good thing about the diesels is the more you rod them out, the better mileage you get out of them. I am real curious to see how it will perform in a boat. Not that I would poney up the cash to do it but it will be pretty interesting to see how it performs..

im really happy that people are finally liking the idea of a diesel in a wakeboat....typically people just bash it haha
|
A buddy of mine just bought a 3.7 Hercules turbo diesel from a bread truck to put in a 64' Chevy pickup. That is a very simple motor and looking at it sitting in that truck now makes me really consider putting one in my 2001.
|
They are very close to finishing the changeover and water testing. Could be this week. Pretty trick setup. They will be able to change the tune on the fly for whatever performance they want.
|
Where do the stacks go??? lol
Awesome build. |
Looks like a sweet conversion, highly impractical but sweet!
Jake, how much weight do you run in your 2001 where you need more motor? We run weight such that the bow and stern splash when we get off plane and my buddy is running the 351 with a 13x10.5" pitch prop... I'd drop a big block in a nautique 2001 before I went through the trouble of converting a diesel... |
I wonder if a 4cyl yanmar like this would work in the smaller boats? It only has 180hp but 350#'s of torque. I have no idea what the price is though.

From what I have learned about the Yanmar XStar is that it was a prototype for MC. Apparently they shipped an empty XStar to a Yanmar tech in Tampa for a marine engine. MC tested it and it ended up going through a dealer. Not sure about the accuracy. However, if you want to buy it, it's for sale.

Love the way it sounds when the turbo spools up.

i would actually pay 60k for that boat because you know its going to last for a VERY long time.......... not to mention to efficiency and power you get with that engine.... IMO the reason manufacturers aren't big one this is the fact that the boats will last such a long time it will hurt future sales...
|
boats generally fall apart around working motors as it is. For 99.999999% of us, the longevity of a gasoline motor in a boat is not a big deal. Is there anybody who is going to want a 10,000 hour wakeboat, even though the diesel engine still runs great?
|
You could circumnavigate the globe on a wakeboard!
|
I've been following this one from the get-go. I wonder if they'll eventually hatch the ZF. I have a D-max in my tow vehicle and when tuned properly, it is one great powerplant. Although it spools up quickly, I've got to wonder about lag when pulling a rider out of the water. Might make for some long arms.
