Best place to list a boat for sale?

Selling our 2010 Tahoe Q4sf because we are upgrading to a wakeboarding boat. Any suggestions where to put it besides the usual like craiglist and boattrader? I can't put it on onlyinboards or similar because it is an i/o.

I would say Craigslist and Boattrader like you already mentioned. If you plan to try and sell it this time of year, the price better be good otherwise bank on holding onto it until late Spring. Most people do not shop for I/O's year round unless they are looking for a deal. Good luck!

Trade it.

eBay.

All good ideas. Like Diggs mentioned, the I/O market doesn't continue nearly as well thru the winter. If you want it gone this fall your probably going to have to dump it.

I personally found when I sold, boat trader to be a waste of money. They are $50 for 14 days and I never got a single lead from there and over 2 dozen scam emails. My boat sold in less than 12 hours on Only inboards. I wouldn't waste the $50 on boat trader this late n the season. I'd try craigs and anywhere else you can list for free(on here). If that doesn't work your probably going to have to sit on it till April/ May.

What do you want for it?

Asking 18,500. The boat is in immaculate condition and I saw others of the same year selling anywhere from 17-19, to I though I would start at 18,5 and see what happens from there.

Listing high retail doesn't sound like a price many will pay this time of year...

Yeah you can plan on hanging onto that boat until next year at best. To sell an I/O this time of year you really need to be below the market price. Those other ones will sit on the market as well. Who knows though, you may get lucky.... If you want to try and get top dollar for it, you might slap a tower on it and try to get a first time boat buyer looking to get info wake sports.... Adding a tower to an I/O will get you at least that money back and maybe more in my opinion.

What are they offering you on a trade in at the dealer?

16igordon 10-02-2013 9:41 AM

They were offering 14,000.....we are paying cash for the new boat and already have the cash available to pay, so there is not necessarily a rush to sell this one- that is why we are starting at high retail.

Cool. Yeah if you have the room and the cash, I would hang onto it until next Spring. You will get more for it in the Spring/Summer than you will get today. Worth a shot for sure to keep it listed. Good luck!

Depends on price point. If the boat is $10K or more you will be waisting your time on Craigslist.

14000+ money to store and winterize the boat = about what you could sell it for next spring...

boardman74 10-02-2013 8:01 PM

If the dealer offered 14K for trade this time of year I would have been all over it. But I guess if your Ok paying storage or tieing up garage space 18K sounds great. IMO your going to be looking at it for a LONG time for that price. Way longer than spring.

nitrousbird 10-03-2013 12:33 PM

$18,500??!!! That's way overpriced IMO. MSRP for a 2014 on Tahoe's website is 25k (including delivery and dealer prep); I am betting dealers have some wiggle room on that price. That's also a brand new boat with warranty and you can get a better finance rate on. You are selling a 4 year old entry level used boat with no warranty for barely less than a new one. Good luck.

Ahhh, one of those kids that think his parent's stuff is his stuff. His parent's boat also won't sell for 18k.

He'd be wise to advise his parents that dealer trade for 14000 is a good deal, then they spend less money. Storage, winterization, travel costs associated with all of that + tax considerations make this trade a no brainer... Those all equal 2-4 grand in my mind, and then that boat won't sell for 18 anyway... now or in the spring.
