Tar in carpet
 

So to add insult to injury (See my thread on the death of my Pro80's), I can't seem to make it out of a weekend on the lake with my parents without incurring significant repair costs :P. Rinsed my flops off at the dock and threw them into the boat, not knowing they had melted tar on the bottoms and decided to transfer a bit of it to my carpet! Anyone know the best method for getting this crap out? Should I just pull the panel and recarpet it? It's limited to a small removable piece of the floor.

What about that stuff they use in schools for removing gum from carpet? Is it called GooGone?

What about wd-40 and then some simple green? I know wd will take the tar out.

i dont know how harsh this would be but i know that diesel fuel will take off tar real easy. i used to drive a dump truck. and when we hauled asphalt we would spray diesel in the bed of our trucks and it was clean that crap out. just a thought.

Mineral spirits, diesel, wd-40, orange degreaser. All of these should work just make sure to clean up with soap and water. Rodney is correct diesel works wonders on asphalt and shouldn't be to harsh on your carpet.

I had the same thing happen I used auto body prep solvent it took it right out without harm.
