Cardio is Not good for you?
Just read this article in Yahoo (I hardly ever read the sensational articles there) but this one said cardio will make you fat!
http://health.yahoo.net/experts/yaho...making-you-fat Wakeboarding is Not cardio, but the ultimate sport of wakeboarding might be the best form of exercise! I really cannot see anyone who can run a 6 min mile and runs a couple miles everyday Getting fat, but have looked at these ultra-runners and said they need to be lifting some weights, they almost look sickly! You cannot dismiss cardio, if you are in a sport you need cardio, but your cardio can diminish very quickly(within a week) where you can go a month without lifting and hardly lose any muscle mass. I would try to go wakeboarding today but my phone died and I left the charger up on Kelleys Island so I will ride my bike for 40 min(for right now I can afford to lose a little muscle mass) |
I heard eating donuts makes you skinny too

Sure the title of the article is a little misleading to draw people in but the key point is 100% true. Increased muscle = increased metabolism
|
This is not an excuse not to cardio it's to encourage muscle building. Cardio is catabolic while weight training is anabolic. You will lose some muscle but be healthier overall...
|
Guess all those fitness/bodybuilding competitors don't know what they are doing cause they all still do some cardio... like most things in life, shoot for a balanced approach!
|
I don't know very man runners, swimmers, surfers, or snowboarders that are fat. cardio is extremely good for you, so is lifting.
|
It doesn't say don't do cardio, it says do different kinds of cardio other than running. I agree that running burns calories and will help you lose weight but I also know running is hard on my joints, so I've started doing more intense plyometrics like burpees, jump rope, mountain climbers, pull ups, push ups all at a quick pace. (No I'm not a crossfit believer but I do burpees lol)

Probably because most cardio doesn't build upper body mass. I'm not particularly fond of cardio as I think the stress on your body is a bit counterproductive, and I'm not fond of exercise just for the sake of maintaining health anyway. OTOH wakeboarding builds upper body mass and is exercise for the sake of having fun.
Even though I don't do it anymore I think slalom skiing is about the ideal exercise. More intense than wakeboarding and virtually impact free as long as you don't screw up. |
This is why Circuits are ideal. p90X, Crossfit, etc. are very successful programs.
Squat, push, pull, all in a row with no rest. Use weight routines for cardio and you'll have the cardio respiratory capacity that you need to perform, and the muscle for performance and increased metobolic rate. |
