tonyv420 10-21-2008 10:09 AM

Nice James !!! Centurion rocks! I have got my avy to throw a wave like that occasionally. Don't quite know why I cant get it dialed perfect every time. Maybe cause I have too many lame friends that won't go out and play fat sac for me. I need to move south and hang with you guys!! I could go 7 days a week if possible. Any job openings for a forklift operator, or trainer?? LOL

jdjjamesz 10-21-2008 4:02 PM

hawaj 10-23-2008 2:30 AM

omg J.L. you are sinking

rhawn 10-23-2008 8:57 AM

That wave looks SICK.

James let me ask, what does the aftermarket install of the Switchblade do for hull stability? From what I understand there is massive support built into boats that come stock with a switchblade or a wedge in the lower aft. How does the aftermarket install compensate?

duffymahoney 10-23-2008 10:22 AM

What weight are you running again? Also, what speed are you riding? So what does the wakeplate do?

Duffy

jdjjamesz 10-23-2008 11:21 AM

the wake plate keeps it from roater tailing on you with the switchblade back there,if you dont get it put on when you order your boat you have to have them re inforce the back with fiberglass depending on the boat, but centurion told me I counld nt put it on my boat and I did .when theres a will theres a way

sheehan 10-23-2008 3:55 PM

That is insane ... That is so huge !

05mobiuslsv 10-23-2008 7:42 PM

J.L I've never seen a boat that slammed.... Nice.

wakebrdjay 10-23-2008 8:02 PM

jdjjamesz 10-24-2008 8:47 AM

to make that wave were going 13 to 14

smedman 10-24-2008 9:58 AM

love how that thing barrels over.

rhawn 10-25-2008 3:34 PM

Man that's nice and fast. Bet the energy from that wave is sick.

jdjjamesz 10-25-2008 5:12 PM

yeah the wave has power behind it for sure

taft 10-25-2008 8:50 PM

What's that boat you're driving in the pictures?

bac 10-25-2008 9:12 PM

Thats the sickest wave I think I've seen behind a boat James! That things looks unreal!

Andrew, James has a Centurion Avalanche

jdjjamesz 10-25-2008 10:34 PM

its a cyclone its a insane wave ,it took a long time and lot of work from a guy who designs racing boats, and racing cars,he should be a person who desighs wakesurfing boats he does things that I never even thought of , thanks for all the props from everyone

jdjjamesz 10-25-2008 10:37 PM

you can imagine how big it is im 5/11 and 220 so look at me then look at the wave

jdjjamesz 10-25-2008 10:39 PM

and that board is a 5/4

bac 10-26-2008 11:20 AM

Hey James, I apologize for the mistake there. I knew it didn't sound right after I had typed it. It was a really long day at the shop yesterday. After seeing all these pics, you're making me want to get one of these and do a similar setup. That wave is definitely one of the best, if not the best I've seen so far.

jdjjamesz 10-26-2008 1:15 PM

yeah no worries hows the weather out there ,going to lake tommorow getting rain friday here

taft 10-26-2008 9:34 PM

That wave is a beast, haha I ran to the local centurion dealer a day after seeing it.

Can only imagine how big you could make it with a 24 foot boat.

duffymahoney 10-27-2008 10:09 AM

Do you think you could keep the stock wakeplate on a avy and add a switchblade? Seems like they both might be able to work together.

Duffy

jdjjamesz 10-27-2008 7:46 PM

depends on how long your boat is

jdjjamesz 10-27-2008 7:47 PM

If you want one let me know

duffymahoney 10-27-2008 7:57 PM

do you mean a switchblade or a wake plate? I am thinking of buying an older avy and building it for surfing. I am just at the research stage now. I like the idea of a switchblade, but I also like the fae, so I might fabricate some downturned pipes instead.

Duffy

bentone 10-27-2008 7:59 PM

hey james, sic ridin and sic wave. How long is your pocket?

jstieg 10-27-2008 10:14 PM

how far are you from santa cruz james?

jdjjamesz 10-27-2008 10:57 PM

2 hours, and the pocket is pretty long

wakemikey 10-28-2008 3:37 PM

W.O.W. wish I was there!

duffymahoney 10-29-2008 11:11 AM

This thread has got me thinking about what the future has instore for this sport. Hopefully overhead endless waves! I hope to see some real interesting hulls in the next few years, and push what waves a boat can throw.

Duffy

jdjjamesz 10-29-2008 2:46 PM

yep thats the goal, but if the wave gets bigger ,alls it going to take is one person to get hurt then you know what will happen, right now my wave has alot of power, for a boat wave and its not that big,I know if I got to play with a ton of diffrent boats I could make a bigger wave,Ive been trying all kinds of ideas

bac 10-29-2008 5:59 PM

Hey james, the weather out here has been perfect the last week and a half or so, but before that it was a week and half of rain and nastiness! Its starting to cool off here (60's) but its still definitely rideable. I can't get over the wake on your boat, I'm starting to look at boats, and if I can find a cyclone in good condition I may snag it up and start on some mods.

As far as an overhead endless wave, all I can say is I have heard from some people within the sport that there is something in the works. These guys want to really bring TRUE surfing to the lakes. From the talks I heard, things sound promising for the future, now exactly how close or far away, I cannot say, nor do I know, but its in the works.

dennish 10-29-2008 6:06 PM

Hate to rain on the big wave parade BUT if or when someone starts putting out even a 5' wave behind a boat our sport will be banned instantly due to the hazard to other boats making wakesurfing a danger to other craft. I think that the future will not be bigger waves but longer pockets where you can have a 25 to 30 foot pocket with a 3-4' wave.

hatepain 10-29-2008 8:50 PM

I'm with Dennis I love the big waves but feel there is a point of diminishing return. If your pocket isn't long enough you wont be able to generate enough speed to boost of the top and typically the taller waves I've ridden have had shortish pockets. $.02

jdjjamesz 10-29-2008 9:31 PM

yeah you should checkout mobgroup.tv video called stretch boards, thats my wave yeah when were ridind were going 14 mph most people go 9 to 11 to get big air you have to have a long wave plus my board is a 5/4 ,I took chase on my boat without the switch blade and he said that was the best wave he ever rode, you need to try my wave and see what you think ive tryed alot of boats i havent rode one that good yet, thanks to my buddy jim at ace marine for custom making everything for the last year and were still doing some stuff to the boat that we havnt told anyone yet

jdjjamesz 10-29-2008 9:38 PM

jdjjamesz 10-29-2008 9:40 PM

thanks to switchblade ive taken my wave to a whole nother level this was before the switchblade these pics

wakesurf_ohio 10-29-2008 9:54 PM

Did switching the exhaust to only the starboard side make a noticeable change in the wake?

duffymahoney 10-30-2008 10:18 AM

Dennis, does you area have wake restrictions? I've been all over Washington and Idaho and there are lots of big boats that make huge 6+ foot wakes. Down in lewiston the paddle boat throws a crazy wake, my buddies do double ups off it and jump jet skiis off it. I think that the displacement wouldn't make huge waves far from the boat. I could be wrong, just seems odd to outlaw 22'-24' boats that are designed to make surfable waves. It would def change the water conditions on small lakes!

Duffy

bac 10-30-2008 11:09 AM

Dennis, I completely agree with you. And I should have been more clear in my post. The boat in question would not be a mass produced boat for sale to the public. More like a contest style boat. There are places it could be done safely and without possible danger to other boats. I won't mention numbers, as I have not personally seen this boats wake, but the numbers I was given would be a nice overhead wave with a long surfable pocket. Like I said, I know one of the guys that is involved is serious about it. When this actually will come about, no one can say for sure. I brought up the legality issue and we discussed it briefly, but not for long. It would definitely need to be done in a blocked off area.

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 11:33 AM

i THINK THATS SMART ,IF THEY MAKE A OVERHEAD WAVE IT SHOULD BE FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY,

duffymahoney 10-30-2008 11:35 AM

I think innovation will drive the sport, the waves will get big, but wakes dissipate quickly. I think crazy hull designs that create steep, tall, fast wakes aren't too far away. I ride boats now that are almost shoulder height and I am 6' tall(this is at slow speed i.e. 10.5), so it's not a stretch to get a wave that is 6' tall or taller. I would say on a good day with a full crew and lots of weight the 22v with 2000 plus#'s throws a 4.5-5 foot wake. What is not safe about this? I guess I don't get it. I thought everyone would be excited for bigger faster waves?

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 11:42 AM

IN HAWAIIAN SIZE THAT WOULD BE 1 FOOT

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 11:48 AM

WELL THE REASON IT WOULDNT BE SAFE IS THAT IF SOMEONE GETS BACK THERE THAT DOESNT KNOW WHAT THERE DOING AND GETS REALLY HURT,THEN THAT STARTS THE WHOLE PROCESS OF GETTING BANNED,i ONLY LET PROFESSIONALS BEHIND MY BOAT,ITS GOT MORE POWER THAN YOU THINK

duffymahoney 10-30-2008 12:10 PM

James, very true, boat waves lack so much power and size, and mother natures waves are awesome, but I am landlocked so bigger is better for me! I'm not a pro and I didn't mean to start anything, but I don't see people getting really hurt because of a 6 foot wave, but anything can happen. Wakeboarding is far far far more dangerous, I and so many of my friends have had nasty injuries trying big tricks. One of my friends broke his back tubing, when I was a kid, thankfully he isn't paralyzed. I think everyone should wear a life jacket, which seems like most wakesurfers don't in my area. I just isn't safe, you could hit a log, your board or something. All water sports are dangerous, but of all I have tried, wakesurfing seems to be the least, even behind todays best boats, and todays best waves(ie enzos, tige's and sangers). Bye the way your wake looks awesome, I would love to try. But again I am not a pro, but I can surf! Do you have a video of the wave? Again I didn't mean to start anything, I just love wakesurfing, and I am going to look for bigger and better inland waves!
Duffy

taft 10-30-2008 1:11 PM

How could you hurt yourself on a bigger wave?

These aren't ocean waves that are crashing down as they are slowed by the seafloor. As well, I don't think anyone is wakesurfing in super shallow water.

The safety concerns of wakesurfing are far below most other water sports. The speed is key.

ragboy 10-30-2008 1:37 PM

You don't measure a wave by the face. I don't surf in the ocean anymore, but did through HS and college. Even the biggest waves I have seen behind a boat would be considered at the most 3ft waves. Most are in the 1-2 ft range. A 6ft wave would have about a 9ft face depending on the break. They could probably make some crazy hull design, but the trick would be to make the wake that allowed you to ride it at a safe distance from the boat. If you just dropped a big lip at the back of the boat, it may make a big wave, but it would be RIGHT behind the boat. I think the only way to make a large, ocean like save wave, is a much bigger boat, not a 21-22 ft boat with some crazy hull.

I could be wrong of course.

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 1:55 PM

hey duffy dont worry about it i wasnt even trippen, thanks for all your feed back yeah i dont wakeboard anymore last time i went i got knocked out,ive been surfing for 25 years and was stoked to get into this .if you want to check out a video goto mobgroup.tv and check out stretch boards video its of me and my friend josh its pretty cool

joeshmoe 10-30-2008 2:02 PM

Robert, why don't you surf the ocean?

ragboy 10-30-2008 2:11 PM

Too old, too fat, and I live in the sierra mountains now, still in California but 2-3 hours from the beach. I used to live in Ventura county and surfed from the malibu area up to Santa Barbara. Stayed mostly around county line and C Street in Ventura.

duffymahoney 10-30-2008 2:33 PM

I'm jealous, the california coast is a two hour drive, three hour flight and then more driving! Stupid oceanless idaho!
Duffy

jstieg 10-30-2008 6:09 PM

i wanna surf a chest high wave behind a boat. these boats are throwing big waves for talkin about in a lake, but if i saw that same wave in the ocean i wouldent even paddle out. if we had 3-4 foot waves behind a boat that would be amazing. i would quit ocean surfing forever.

jstieg 10-30-2008 6:16 PM

this is what a 3 foot wave looks like. if that were in the lake... whattttt no more wake specific boards needed.

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 7:28 PM

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 7:31 PM

I will be headeing there soon, hows the wave been there johney are you in santa barbara yet

jstieg 10-30-2008 8:42 PM

naw im not goin back to santa barbara. im here in templeton again. i just got a rmz 250 yesterday dude im so stoked. waves were super good the last week, but now we have a front moving in an its kinda killin it. after this storm passes its gunna get fun again. me and chase and cody camped up at big sir last weekend and got double overhead surf. it was breaking soooooo far out we could barly get out, then just got pounded all the way back to shore haha.

jdjjamesz 10-30-2008 8:46 PM

where sand dollar Ive gotten that place so good

dennish 10-31-2008 6:16 AM

Duffy,
A 4.5 to 5 foot wave behind a Tige 22ve? Pictures please

duffymahoney 10-31-2008 9:58 AM

It's a 2003 22v and I will look for some good examples. The wake is huge, but again thats at like 10.5-11 mph.

rhawn 10-31-2008 7:29 PM

James your "Switchblade" video is up on mobgroup.tv Good stuff.

jdjjamesz 10-31-2008 9:42 PM
