garage radio
I have an extra head unit that I am going to use in my garage. I've purchased a transformer that converts the house 120 to 12 volts.
I hooked it up to 2 speakers and it works great I also want to be able to toggle between using the Kenwood unit and an old car 8 track player that I have. I'm thinking about running speakers that are specific to each unit, but I want them to share the power source. I'm thinking that I can use a 3 way toggle, but the toggles that I have found don't offer an ability to attach power and ground from the source (transformer). Am I missing something obvious? anyone recommend a switch that will work? on 1: provides power to Kenwood..... off on 2 provides power to 8 track player |
Am I missing something obvious? -Besides the fact that all can be covered by a bluetooth speaker and a cell phone? lol. Sorry, had too.
A 3 way rocker should work, no? similar to the way a rocker switch is used to fill/empty ballast with an aerator set up anyway. They share a common ground, Main power from source and individual source power on each end of the rocker. https://www.amazon.com/X-Haibei-Wate...7894D3DGS2RQD7 |
thanks
the ones that I saw , didn't have the ground |
Attach the ground to both units and toggle the power to each.

You are wanting a DPDT switch. But a DPST will work since only power needs switching.

thanks guys! I'm restoring a 1970 Superbee. I've got an original AM 8 track player to put in it. The 8 tracks are available, but do require rebuilding. It will be nice to be able to test them from the work bench.
