I'm a LF fan but their 09 stuff is lookin um....not-so-great. I'm really likin the new Obrien boots though. Definitely got a more modern style to em.

srh00z 08-13-2008 1:03 PM

Obrien is stepping it up. The boots look great. The Decade looks like a cool shape. Seems to be stripped down and a simpler design without the extra pair of molded fins.

jjakober 08-13-2008 1:21 PM

DW's new board is a sweet evolution from the Option to the Player to the Natural and now the Decade. <BR>10 years of sick shapes and they just keep getting better! <BR> <BR>(Message edited by jjakober on August 13, 2008)

That new Decade is SO SICK!

That new Decade is SO SICK!

dakid 08-13-2008 1:51 PM

just to be sure, you're saying that the new decade is sick? <BR> <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0>

jjakober 08-13-2008 1:52 PM

It's so sick, he had to say it twice<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0>

ralph 08-13-2008 2:18 PM

That means it is SICKČ

hawk7 08-13-2008 2:20 PM

"Obrien is stepping it up." <BR> <BR>Agreed, I'd ride the decade setup, I like the neon orange color.

lsukuntryboy 08-13-2008 6:41 PM

i dont know that they actually stepped it up. in my opinion they have been up. i just put a pair of xenons on my board and i love them. super easy in-n-out, very comfy, and they look great. thats all i have ever heard of obriens stuff except for the low end of the line. the player is a GREAT board. i love it. just wish i could afford one. im sure the decade will be just as good, even better than the natural. but it is sick.

ryan_shima1 08-13-2008 6:52 PM

Great looking stuff, can't wait to ride them.

slaysher 08-13-2008 8:28 PM

here's the 09 DECADE in action via daniel at the cam sur cable park if you haven't already seen this already. who ever rides that deck is going to be able to spot you a mile away with that NEON ORANGE <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.alliancewake.com/video_details.php?id=3956&amp;page=1" target="_blank">http://www.alliancewake.com/video_details.php?id=3956&amp;page=1</a>

adam_balon 08-13-2008 10:16 PM

the obrien boots look like 10 year old snowboard boots. the technology is not there. the lastability will be short lived.

joshugan 08-13-2008 11:48 PM

Thank goodness you came and gave your incredibly informed opinion Adam. I don't know what we would have done without you. <BR> <BR>I'm really excited to try the new Decade shape!

The 2009 Line up that I have seen is SO SICK!

wakebrdjay 08-14-2008 8:05 AM

Anyone notice the liquid force like lace holders?? Also the plate on the bindings look the same as Liquid Force's I just got an obrien board and on the questions at the bottom of the warranty sheet it says"questions go to <a href="http://www.liquidforce.com" target="_blank">www.liquidforce.com</a>"and it had the same made in the U.A.E. sticker that L.F. boards that I have bought. What gives did liquid force buy Obrien??? <BR> <BR>(Message edited by wakebrdjay on August 14, 2008)

j_money 08-14-2008 8:31 AM

I WILL BE BUYING THE DECADE BOOT AS SOON AS IT IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Them things are <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/smile.gif" border=0>!!!!!!!!!!!!

jjakober 08-14-2008 8:33 AM

The Obrien lace locks work totally different then the LF ones, no magnets! <BR> <BR>LF and OB boards are made in the same factory. LF does not own OB. Someone else can tell you the whole story.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

andy_nintzel 08-14-2008 8:36 AM

Oh Boy, wake gossip. O'brien is NOT owned by LF.

dabell 08-14-2008 9:39 AM

Andy, do you know any more information pertaining to the Decade board?? three stage? rocker? etc....

jarrod 08-14-2008 10:24 AM

The obrien stuff looks a F-load better that the LF stuff. Love the look of that Natural board.

romes 08-14-2008 10:48 AM

those vice boots look nice...does anyone know how they secure the overlays to the footbed? are they glued like all the LF's have been the past few years and how cdub did theirs this year?

jealous_soul 08-14-2008 11:09 AM

I'm starting to like O'briens stuff more now....but I can't say that I'm feeling the black and gold natural.

jjakober 08-14-2008 11:14 AM

David, <BR> <BR>The Decade has progressive 3 stage rocker, refined Delta Base, rolled edges in the center of the board, and a nice spine running the length of the board. <BR> <BR>It's like the Natural, only better! <BR> <BR>(Message edited by jjakober on August 14, 2008)

dabell 08-14-2008 11:46 AM

Thanks jjakober!!!!!

jjakober 08-14-2008 12:34 PM

Decade rocker is a bit more then the Natural, don't have the numbers. <BR> <BR>Width: <BR> <BR>134 = 17.15 <BR>139 = 17.3 <BR>144 = 17.5 <BR> <BR>Thats all I got for now. <BR> <BR>I've ridden it, and all I can say is that it takes the Natural to the next level<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

xsmini 08-14-2008 2:31 PM

o'brien and LF have the same financial backing company. But all in all they are run as two different companies

dakid 08-14-2008 2:31 PM

what's a "delta base"?

srh00z 08-14-2008 2:33 PM

The Delta base are the cutouts towards the tip and tail that look like chevrons, correct?

jjakober 08-14-2008 2:43 PM

Come on Joe, don't play dumb, everyone knows the Delta Base is the biggest innovation in wakeboarding since the twin tip!

dakid 08-14-2008 2:49 PM

seriously, i have no idea what "delta base" is. you know i don't know jack about o'brien's stuff. <BR> <BR>i do like the looks of the decade bindings, but what makes the decade board such a sick board? judging by the pic, the bottom design looks just like an lf substance.

pyrosmurf 08-14-2008 3:19 PM

It does look like it from that pic, although in reality they are very different shapes.

jjakober 08-14-2008 3:24 PM

Well I don't know jack about LF stuff so I can't tell you if it is similar to the substance or not<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>I have heard good things about the substance, so if the Decade looks like it, then it must be good also! <BR> <BR>The thing the substance or any other manufacturers boards don't have is the Delta Base! That is what really makes a number of O'Brien boards ride better then the competitions, IN MY OPINION! <BR> <BR>The Delta Base greatly reduces the amount of drag you feel when riding the board. Less drag=less effort, so you can ride longer without getting tired, it also makes it easier to generate speed into the wake so you can go bigger with less effort. <BR> <BR>When the Natural came out, it was the first board with the Delta Base so there wasn't anything to compare it to. Since then, O'Brien has added the Delta Base to two existing boards(Valhalla and Vice) in there line and it's amazing the difference it makes. You can hop on the old board and then ride the new one with the Delta Base and the difference is easy to feel. IN MY OPINION that proves that the Delta Base technology really does work! <BR> <BR>So you have the Delta Base, large center spine, rolled edges in the middle tapering to a sharp edge at the ends, progressive 3 stage rocker....That is what makes the Decade such a sick ride<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/kiss.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>And it looks cool also! <BR> <BR>Any other questions?

dakid 08-14-2008 3:28 PM

yeah. how would you describe the pop?

jjakober 08-14-2008 3:37 PM

When I rode the Decade it felt like I was getting a more vertical pop then I do from the Natural, but I had no problem taking it out into the flats on a 85' line behind a well sacked 220. <BR> <BR>It's not a crazy pop like the Ibex, it's very predictable and consistent. One of the things people have told me they like about the Natural, is the consistency of the ride, very predictable, anyone can ride it. I believe that has been carried through to the Decade.

tversetti 08-14-2008 4:23 PM

Are those o'brien boards heavy? <BR>And since you seem to know quite a bit about o'brien mr jakober I was wondering, in your opinion, why obrien is not mentioned or popular among the wakeboarding community compared to brands such as LF or Ronix or some of the "cool" brands.

jjakober 08-14-2008 4:34 PM

No. <BR> <BR>The second one is easy, they don't spend much money marketing/hyping their product!! <BR> <BR>In the last 3 years I have personally converted at least 20 people into O'Brien riders, and all it took was getting them on the board and the rest took care of itself. <BR> <BR>If you don't try it you will never know!

hawk7 08-14-2008 4:37 PM

"Them things are <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/smile.gif" border=0>!!!!!!!!!!!!" <BR> <BR>Agreed, them things <i>are</i> smile. Likin' the new natural's base graphic.

joshugan 08-14-2008 6:27 PM

J do you know if the Decade will be a little more loose than the Natural? <BR> <BR>I love my Natural but sometimes wish for a little looser ride. (but only a tiny bit more loose, ah who am I kidding I love my board!) <BR> <BR>btw, I'm one of J's O'Brien converts. Once I got on the Natural it was like I found everything I ever wanted in a board. It is such a quick and fun ride and I love the pop I get behind it. <BR> <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/614818.jpg" alt="Upload">

adam_balon 08-14-2008 6:34 PM

wicked. no problem josh. after all this is a forum on 09 stuff and one that people can share thier opinions on. <BR> <BR>those boots look like a cheap 99$ sportmart snow boot.

srh00z 08-14-2008 7:36 PM

I have always been impressed with the weight of O'brien boards. I have picked up a Player and a Natural with no bindings in the past and they were both very lightweight.

wakerider111 08-14-2008 8:26 PM

the cutaway spring look thing in the heel is gone in the boots... comparing the natural boots that were expected to come out this year. <BR> <BR>The toe piece seems to come up really high... or maybe that might be a bit of an illusion making it appear so? <BR> <BR>agreed, that the lace dangle lock looks like LF system. if not a magnet, then it must be a clip kinda thing that might be similar to the one on the CWB factions <BR> <BR>It almost looks like a slingshot (4 hole mount) plate could be swapped onto the obrien boot (and LF boots), but i am sure that will not be the case. <BR> <BR>***The decade (and other boots) look great and don't look so much like open toed boots with a cap thrown on. BUT the decade boot only has ONE drain hole (that i can see) and that one hole is kinda high up on the boot<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0>... hope there is other drain holes i am not seeing, otherwise i am gona have to say that it is a poor design. The OTHER boots however all have two drain holes and are closer to the sole... that i can see anyway. <BR> <BR>heat moldable liners? <BR>removable liners?

tsteeb 08-14-2008 8:38 PM

those boots look comfy as hell though <BR>obrien has stepped up their game in the last few years <BR>my first board was an old obrien that my dad got for me, looks like it might be time to check them out again.

jjakober 08-14-2008 9:59 PM

Josh, <BR> <BR>Yes the Decade is a little looser then the Natural. I think it is just right!

ryan_shima1 08-14-2008 10:25 PM

The boards weight is not even an issue and like JJakober, have converted several of my riding buddies to Obrien over the years. Obrien may not get the hype, but they sure make good products. Chris J should be commended for his designs and how they just continue to improve on each other.

dabell 08-15-2008 9:16 AM

J, is the Decade going to be loser than the Coda without the center fin? I was able to ride the Coda last weekend and liked it a lot compared to my Vision (it's already getting old) but want to try the Coda with the center fin attached. What do you think about the two boards? Coda/Decade????

andy_nintzel 08-15-2008 9:30 AM

2009 O'brien line is our best yet. We may not get the hype that everyone else gets but I can assure the product is the best out there. Not to mention really stepping up our game with the FULL waranty on the Slider boards (R5 and Local). As of right now I am pretty sure no else in the industry is doing that.

denverd1 08-15-2008 9:35 AM

best lookin boots i've seen so far! good stuff O'B!

jjakober 08-15-2008 9:36 AM

David, <BR> <BR>I would say the Decade is not as loose as the Coda, but looser then the Natural. (No center fins) <BR> <BR>The Coda is a sweet ride and I rode it for about a month and a half this year, switching from the Natural just to change things up. <BR> <BR>The things I like about the Coda over the Natural is it's a little faster, and it lands softer, but I feel like I go bigger on the Natural due to the wider tip and tail. <BR> <BR>So to me the Decade is kinda a cross between the Natural and the Coda. It has the refined Delta base to make it fast, 2 fins instead of 4 to loosen it up a bit, large center spine to help soften up the landings, and a wide tip and tail to help me go bigger! They also rolled the edges to make it more forgiving and more durable on sliders. <BR> <BR>It's sounds almost perfect, doesn't it? But you will have to try it out for yourself and let us know what you think!

slaysher 08-15-2008 11:47 AM

hey jeremy. <BR> <BR>no removable liners. they wanted to "simplify" the "wakeboard boot" so they used built-in liners. it's easier, more simple, and less $h(t to worry about. <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> <BR> <BR>and the drain system underneath is dope. so no worries about the one drain eyelit. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by slaysher on August 15, 2008)

adam_balon 08-15-2008 3:39 PM

what are the fins like on the decade. looks like a lf omega.

ty540 08-15-2008 5:08 PM

"So to me the Decade is kinda a cross between the Natural and the Coda." <BR> <BR>That makes me happy. I really like both boards, but the Coda 141 feels a little too small for me, and the Natural tracks just a little harder than I would prefer.

hawk7 08-15-2008 6:10 PM

"2009 O'brien line is our best yet." that makes chronological sense, but I have to agree and will probobly end up demoing the coda if I can find the money for a new deck.

wakerider111 08-15-2008 7:34 PM

thanx jordan, <BR>"drain system underneath," interesting. i'll have to check that out to see how it works, if ever i find myself in a large enough town to carry obrien stuff (more than the entry level stuff anyway)... that is if there are no pics later this year of it. <BR> <BR>---------------------------------- <BR>Any additions to the flex line? or just new (if any) graphics for 2009?
