Well, let's see here.
Did construction. Then got into Security. And then got into investing.
So now I invest, which is why anyone peeling off $60k cash for a depreciating asset, makes my stomach turn. I used that $60k I had, invested in TWO stocks, financed my boat at 3.75% and paid it off from the profits, less taxes in 14 months. And I still have my $60k!

Cash is king if you use it right and credit is second if your smarter than the first.

I also charge an exorbitant amount of money for consulting.

We had a "Baller" boat a few years ago, but I sold it when we built our new house (boat was paid off). So I now have a project Moomba that I'm going to make into a baller boat for next season.

Also have 2 rental homes, and flip used cars/projects as a hobby. We do okay :)

I'm 28, married with a 9 month old. 2006 Malibu Vride picked up in November'10,it is financed. Worth every penny as a family getaway, even 9 mo old loves it. Don't fully understand why so many people sell their boat because they are having a kid, other than financial burden.

My wife stays home with the kid while I get paid by the gov't to hunt and track people:D

I love how you all have wife/fiance/gf who enjoy and take part in boating. One of the huge issues I had with my ex who was too high maintenance to be near lake water. I grew up on lakes. Looking forward to finding someone who enjoys the good times on the water and willing to have a lakehouse:)

26 y/o. I was a plumber until 2006 when I became disabled and started a new career path in the IT field. Now I work with my g/f and her dad at his IT company. I do all the repairs and she is the office manager. I bought a bayliner three years ago and flipped it this year. Ended up buying another project SUPRA Saltare. Old but fun! My house payment makes it hard to afford something more expensive.

I'm 23 (on the 27th of this month) and am in sales. I've dabbled in a little of this and a little of that. I have been selling cell phones/home products for an at&t authorized retailer for the past 4 years. I've taken an assistant management position in the store I work out of, then left to go sell cars for awhile. Learned a whole hell of a lot selling cars. 1. I'm damn good at it. 2. I hate the hours and the people. 3. I'd rather spend time with my lady than a bunch of miserable middle aged men trying to rip off a pair of newlyweds so they have more money for weed and ****y bars.

So now I'm selling phones again, gave up the management spot and I'm happier without it. Not much of a difference in pay but a lot more asked of you. Luckily I did it for about a year and I walked away from it so it is still good on the resume. I'm looking at getting in to banking at the moment. In the next month I plan to start that process. I'm interested in starting out as a personal banker, moving to a mortgage specialist and then who knows what.

Currently I don't own or finance my boat. It was my parents, my dad basically bought it for me, he passed away in 2008. My mom keeps it so that I can use it and she uses it once in a blue moon. If this banking thing works out I will more than likely be spending G23 money...ON A HOUSE.

Houstonshark 04-21-2012 5:21 AM

I'm 34 and married for almost 9 years with a 4yr old boy and a 3yr old boy. I started my own business 7 years ago doing mid-high end home audio, video and control systems. It's strange how things change. We used to do a lot of TV, surround systems and theater installs. Now the majority of our business is advanced whole house control systems, lighting control, shades, camera systems, etc with an average system being over $100k. I sometimes wish we could go back to doing simple systems that take 1-2 days to complete!

My wife coaches competitive cheerleading just 2 days a week now that we have our boys. We just bought our first boat, a 2012 Tige RZR. My wife and I started wakeboarding around June of last year and are hooked. Both of our boys have been up on the board last year and just once this year cause the water is still a little cold.

My kids are borderline obsessed...they find anything they can around the house to use as a rope to tow each other and are constantly wakeboarding on pillows and almost anything they can stand on. They came into my bedroom the other day with their tool belts on, carrying a bunch of their toy tools and various supplies to build a wake park! They worked on it for a good hour or so.

They are not old enough to ride at Wake Nation (have to be 5) so they play in the grass either on their board or any of our friend's boards who is taking a break. You would not believe the ollies they do, especially the 4yr old on boards way too big for him.

Here's a pic I snapped of him playing on a friend's 134.

From what I have seen you guys have to be pulling in over $100k a year to afford these boats and trucks. I am in the wrong business. With a 4 yr. degree from a highly ranked business school in the south I pull in just over half that. I went wrong some where.

I have to say this thread is absolutely awesome!!

Well Im only 20, but here it goes.

Before college I worked for my dad, fairly interesting business.
-Live fishing bait wholesaler, selling to Bait shops and stores like Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Bass Pro etc... Here I did just about everything there was to do, loading trucks, driving daily routes, cut grass, and many other things. i usually worked 2am-Noonish which was awesome cause during the summer I had the rest of the day to be on the lake. (If anyone here fishes and lives in the Midwest, those little blue bait cups with the Fish and Robinson logo is my dads business)

During high school I also did snowboard lessons at the Grand Geneva Resort, as well as worked at BS The Board Shop selling Wake, Snow, and Skate stuff.

I went to College in Wisconsin for one year, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and now go to school and live in Florida. I'm Currently working at Performance Ski and Surf and am really enjoying it. As of now I don't plan on leaving Florida anytime soon!

50 yrs "young", retired military (27 yrs) still living vicariously through my younger peers with a wife and 2 boys 22 and 15. I work in the Force Modernization office of my old unit, think new (Toys "R" Us) as a Govt employee. On the face of it, dependent on what you do in the military and how long you stay the pay and job stability can be pretty good in comparison to the civilian world. That is unitl you factor in for the chance of getting "acute lead poisoning" then not so much. Wouldn't of changed a thing though!
