Remember?
There have been over 50 wakeboard companies! How many have you known?
I was looking up some older boards on the gear guide on wakeworld and was reminded just how many brands there have been over the years and how many sounded unfamiliar to me. So here is the LIST, but it may not be conclusive, so help me out if there are names missing or wrong/ need removed. just realized I forgot Wakeology.
sorry |
What about Nice bindings? I think Gerry Nunn rocked them.
|
Funny I have rode/tested about 90% of those brands over the years. Some were great improvements and other not so much (tubelite). Still have not found one brand I don't break :) Thanx for the memory lane trip.
|
NBN and Serum were legit!
|
Kidder was huge in the water ski area. Nbn rocked! I am certain that colin wright and josh smith both rode for most of those brands at some time in their careers!
|
NICE were a binding only company as well.

We had a Goode board at the shop in the early 2000s (long out of date by that point). It weighed 3.8 lbs (we weighed it on a scale) and was so stiff and strong that we screwed one end down to a dock and used it as a diving board. I don't know what retail for the board was, but our book value was like $600!! (Retail $800-900 maybe??!!)
Crazy technology with a crappy shape. Goode still makes killer skis from what I hear. |
What about such as Naish, Body Glove and etc. brands? Or are these ones not classified as wake manufacturers?
|
Too small of an industry to have that many companies
|
I think I remember BIC having decks.
Serum was Colin Wright's company. I don't know if Colin Wright was the name of a brand. The first board I owned a LASki. |

There are many brands that (have) supplemented their pre-existing watersports gear with cheap, low-end, entry set-ups (airhead, rave, etc.). They are not really pushing the sport in a professional way; no pro riders and no significant innovation. I decided to leave these guys out except for Hydroslide. I think Hydroslide honestly tried to give wakeboarding a push (like with that first parabolic design), but in the end just refocused on kneeboards and such. AND if wakeworld has Hydroslide listed than they ought to be worthy enough for the list. ;) speaking of what is listed on Wakeworld, some were not on it that i had to remember such as a with a few newer/ smaller brands CTRL, Wakeology, Sine, LWA, Rope, and even an older brand, K2 for the rare and ever so elusive "K2 Woody" i hear about from time to time |
I forgot to mention that while cruising the gear guide i noticed that 1999 was a Banner year for Brand Diversity.
Over 25 brands were alive in 1999! Crazy! who would have thought eh? |
i don't think serum was colin wright's, per se. serum was owned and operated by robin roberts.

I have no idea who makes this board (ROPE??) or where you get it, but I want one. http://www.ropeclothing.com/news/wp-..._3961811_n.jpg |
KD made boards for a while.
|
I recognize most of these, coming from a waterski background. But no mention of skurfer?
Or am I showing my age again? My first ride was on a skurfer 'rage'. |
Most legendary DinozaWAKErous have started on skurfer :)
