i live pretty far from my lake and my dad works so i dont get out all that too much, but ive managed to ride about 6, 7 times this summer so ive become pretty comfortable with getting up and all the essentials of wakeboarding and jumping and all that. but when i went out yesterday, everytime my dad would start pulling me at the start, the force would become unberable on my hands and id have to eventually let go. i tried pointing my toes because i was just getting a noseful of water which made me think my board mighta just been sinking. but i attempted about 10, 15 times and just couldnt get up no matter what i tried and today my forarms are killing me and i cant clinch my fists. anybody have any clue what i coulda been doing wrong. hopefully its somethign simple because i had gotten my getting up ruitine pad down; usually ill not get up maybe once every outting. thanks a bunch.

you could be straighting your legs. this puts alot more force on you and your arms. just ball up and pretty much collapse your legs and keep your arms straight too.

I would say almost definatly you are straighting your legs. Just sit there with your legs bent. You could ride just like that forever. Just don't stand up to soon and you got it.

How fast was your dad pulling you up out of the water? It almost sounds like he was pulling you up too slow, causing you to drink so much water and not pop out of the water. I can also see this being really hard on the arms/shoulders because of the slow, constant pull. If your dad was going really slow, next time tell him to pull you up at normal speed (the speed he would go when just going and getting the boat on plane). This should help you pop out of the water much easier and quicker, with a lot less hard pull on your arms.

I was doing the same thing when I was first learning. Just plowing through the water sideways until I couldn't hold the rope any longer.

What solved it for me was that right when the boat takes off (both knees bent, in a crunch position), just push your lead foot forward a bit, slightly rotating the board so you're not coming up completely sideways.

Pop, instantly up. I was amazed how easy it was to get up from that point on.

It took me three freaking trips to the lake to figure this out (nobody teaching me.) Now I don't think I've failed to get up a single time in 2 years.
