Info and pics on RZ4 please!!

I am looking to upgrade my '06 24V to an RZ4.
I am not looking for opinions on which boat to buy, but simply real owners experiences with this boat. Yes, I am considering a couple of others, but that is a topic for another day.;)

I have spec'd a new 2011 model and I have to say they have some pretty awesome options and motor choices.

Post pics if you have them, I would love to see some different color options!

Thanks in advance.

I guess to be clear I am looking for opinions on usable interior space and features, wakes for both surfing and boarding (beginners to intermediates here), build quality, and info on the alpha z tower: does it rattle, how much room underneath, etc.

talltigeguy 08-27-2010 11:41 AM

I am 6'9" tall, so I don't like the tower much, but it seems really solid and without rattles.

Erick Ruck seems to like the wake OK. This is without ballast, but with about 10 people in the boat.

i think tige is really on point with their warranty, wet sounds, and ballast systems this year.

from what i've seen and been told by dealers the area you gain is from the drivers seat/dash forward the rz4 is wider and 3 people can lounge up front. but everyone i,ve talked to that is serious into surfing or wakeboarding say the 24ve has a better wake.i for one will never be a pro. i,ve been in a 22ve,24veand a rz2.all have good surf and wakeboard wakes and weight will improve them all.options i would get are vision air seat. alpha z tower, bimini top w/extension,heater,docking lights,,tower of power sound system, center bow cushion, walk thru windscreen,ss cup holders, transom remote stereo control, cover, extra cleat up front and most important ballast system. for me it would be pro ballast because it would offer you best resale and more options wakeboarding and surfing.colors are custom ordered to your liking. the boat shows are coming lets do our research.

We've had our RZ4 for two years, and we love it. The pictures shown above are from our boat. Obviously, for very tall people, the Alpha Z tower can be a little short. I am 5'9" and it works great for me, but if you are over 6' tall, I would suggest that you get a chance to experience it for yourself and decide if it may be too short for you. The tower is solid, with little to no rattles, and a lot of nice features built into it. A couple of limitations for this tower, however, are the board rack mounting points and the speaker mounting points. If you will want to mount more than one board rack per side, or if you want to use tower speakers other than WetSounds Pro-60x, Pro-80x, or MB-8x, than it would require some extra thought and special effort to make it work. For my family, it has offered everthing we needed in a tower. If you live somewhere that a bimini is critical (like for us on Lake Mead), I suggest getting the extended bimini. The extra 2' of bimini coverage is nice, as the basic bimini is only about 6' long.

Ours has the standard PCM 343 engine, which has plenty of power for us. For those running a lot of ballast, re-propping from the stock ACME 537 to something like the 1235 will be helpful without needing to upgrade to the larger PCM engine. I think that only folks running huge amounts of ballast need to consider the larger engine. Our PCM 343 has been reliable, but did need to have a fuel pump replaced under warranty.

For the ballast, I think the Pro Ballast option will give plenty of wake for beginner/intermediate boarding and surfing. Plus, if you find that you want more, the rear sacs can be easily swapped out with larger ones. The extra front weight the Pro option gives over the Surf option would be beneficial.

The factory stereo options are great, and should satisfy the majority of people. The Tower of Power option, with 1700 watts and all WetSounds components (except Clarion HU) sounds great and can give really good sound straight from the factory. Sure, some buyers will still want more, but I don't think you'll find a better factory setup. We did install a WS-420 on ours, and pulled the XS-10FA sub for an XS-12.

In my opinion, overall build quality on ours was good. Some minor issues, but those were resolved by the dealer in short order. I will admit, however, that I don't have much experience on brand new boats from other manufacturers, so I don't have a basis to compare.

All things considered, we are extremely happy with our choice of the RZ4. If I knew then what I know now, I would look closely at the RZ2 as well, since we really haven't needed all the space the RZ4 provides. But, my wife really loves having a huge boat with tons of room, so I don't know if the final decision would be any different. The women and kids always gravitate to the bow in our boat, so the large picklefork bow area has been well used and appreciated. Finally, here are a few exterior pictures. This was the same color scheme used for Tige's 2009 promo shots, so you have probably seen it before.

Erick and Robert, Thanks so much for the real first hand opinions and honest answers!

Erick I think we share similar boating requirements as I have noticed the bow section is ALWAYS the first place the kids land. My wife likes it up there too if we are doing a lot of turning..she gets a little queasy after a while:eek:

We currently own a 24V, and not once have I ever heard a complaint about having too much room!
We are never going to be pros either when it comes to boarding, but I would say we have just as much if not more fun than those always looking down on your for your lack of ability:rolleyes:.

Tige has some big power options for 2011, and since we boat at somewhat of an altitude (only 3000 feet, but you would be surpised how much difference that makes), I always opt for more power. Again, I have never heard a complaint that a boat has too much power.

I plan on visiting the factory soon, so we wil see how it goes.

I would be interested in hearing about quality of build or other concerns as a dealer for me will be 4+ hours away.

Oh and Talltigeguy: Oh My GOD, dude anyone 6'9" SHOULD have problems with a tower!! That's payback for being able to see at sporting events and concerts.;):D

summerobsession 08-30-2010 8:59 AM

Oh and Erick, that is one beautiful boat!
