I was thinking of tinting my windsheild my self. Anybody ever removed the window out of a Supra 24V or any other supra. I saw a guy do my windows in my truck and it can't be that hard. Plus I put a window tint like film over my head light (see profile pic) it cant be any harder than heating up that stuff to get around the corner of my head light.

It might be harder than you think... If there's only one curve to the glass, it's easy. Once you add 2 curves (top to bottom, and side to side), that's where the tinting gets tough. I've done plenty of tint, but I won't do the complex curves, like the rear window of a car. Sides are easy though, typically just one curve to the glass. If it's a simple one curve, give it a shot. If it's complex, leave it to the pros.

Charlie,

If you where going to do one with complex curves would you use a hair drier to heat up the film to form to the curves. I would like for the pros to do it but the two shops I talked to around here won't even give it a try .

I took mine out and took them down to a shop. fairly easy.

Do you just unscrew the frame or do I have to go under the dash to remove it?

I don't know how to remove the windshield... A good tint place would do it in place, no problem. The pros make it look super easy.

On complex curve rear car windows, they do it in 2 or 3 pieces. The strips are cut roughly to size, and overlap on a defrost line. Then, they carefully cut down the defrost line and peel out the overlap. I'm not sure if they would do a windshield in multiple pieces, or try to do one piece. One piece would be very tough, and I'm not sure if you could heat it enough. It all depends on how much curve there is. I would call around some more and find someone who has done boat windshields and see what they say.

Blair, I'm going to get mine done also in Greensboro at this place.

http://www.dedona.com/

I think he charges $300 and it's guaranteed for life. He does awesome work. You can pull your windows or pull the boat to him. He's a pretty cool guy. I've ridden with him a few times. He usually rides with Tickle. Hit him up.

Look carefully at your glass though... There's that major curve from side to side, but I'm not sure how much curve from top to bottom. You could test how well the tint will lay down around the curve by spraying the outside with water, and laying that tint (leave backing on) onto the window, adhesive out. This is how you would trim the tint to rough size anyways. If it lays down around the curve real nice, there might not be much curve from top to bottom. However, if you get some big air bubbles, like big creases coming in from the edges that you can't get to flatten out, you've got too much complex curve. At this point, with the tint laying on the outside of the window, is when you would start shrinking it with a heat gun. Try to get those large creases that come in from the edges out with the heat gun. If you can make it lay down completely, you should be home free.

You might want to buy some cheap tint from an auto parts store to test this with, but don't actually use it! Order yourself some professional quality tint and it will last a long time. I've ordered tint from these guys multiple times, and it's great stuff. http://www.sunshieldfilms.com/index.php I've had their tint on the side windows of my 2003 Silverado since new, and it still matches the factory tint perfect. No turning purple like the cheap stuff from auto parts stores. Also- last time I ordered they had 20" tall bulk rolls, and 40" tall bulk rolls. Go with the tall stuff and it might make that windshield much easier to do.

blair......the windshield is very easy to take off just pull the piece of rubber around the bottom of the outside perimeter, there are screws in that channel....

that windshield is impossible to tint in 1 piece, and extremely hard to do in 2 pieces, i took the windshield off my 22ssv and took it to 2 tint guys and they couldnt do it without a fairly obvious seam, and they were both very good tint guys.
