Fly High Ballast
I recently upgraded to an 09 X-star and I have a ballast question. Is it common that my x-star won't plain out with all ballast full? Should I only fill 75%? It has a 350. Thanks

Used to ride in an 07 with the 350. We had full ballast, 450's in the each back locker and 2 sacs up front. Usually would ride with about 6-8 ppl in the boat. The wake was HUGE, but it burned gas and took a long time to plane out. You have to sink the boat to get a good wake IMO. I think there is a problem if you aren't on plane with only stock ballast.

You should change your prop if you haven't already done so, it will fix your issue. I recommend the ACME 1235 or OJ 475. You will be able to fill 100% and still get on plane easily.

it planes fine w/ a stock ballast...the only prob is when I fill the Fly High 100%. even if I fill the FH 50% and the stock ballast I'm ok....I think the charged prop idea might be the right thing.....thanks....

CHange the prop or just dump the stock rears and should be good to go.

you need a 14.5x14.25 prop. even with that you probably need someone to stand in the bow when planing off. we used to ride behind one with stock ballast and 750's under each bow seat and in the rear lockers and had to do that.

You need more weight in the front. If too much in the stern she won't plane out.
I have the 350 and can have about 5 people in the boat. I actually add another sac in the front wayway for more weight to hold the bow down. |
Weight up front and if that doesnt work switch the prop, like everyone already said. you should be good to go at that point.

We have a few people jump up in the bow to help plane out sometimes but normally that means we have to much in the back. So to answer your question yes I think it is common. We have found to get the best wake we fill the front full and then add rear weight until you get to the point that the boat will just plain on its own without moving people around.

With the Fly High add-on system you'll be pushing the MCX pretty hard with the stock prop.
If you only use the boat for surfing then upgrading to ACME's 1285 will transform the boat's low speed performance. You will lose a significant mount of top end though, but for most people that's not a huge problem anymore because they rarely drive over 35 anyway. If you want a custom recommendation on the best prop for your application give us a call or send an email. |
I have the 14.75 x 15.5 prop.... though the best stump pulling power is from the 14.5 x 14.5 amce prop
