Best speaker components
Need to replace several 5 1/4"s in the cabin as the surrounds are starting to crack.
Found some Kicker 40CS54 that will handle 75w rms for a good price ($60/pair). Don't mind spending more for an upgrade. what are you guys running? |
For low dollar in-boats the Fosgate stuff is pretty darn hard to beat.

Honestly get you a 6 inch hole saw and put 6 inch speaker in there. You will not need a 6in but you will be much happier with a 6in coax speaker. Just my opinion.
|
A typical 6 or 6.5" would require a 5" or 5.125" hole. There are a lot more options in this size, especially if you want to go with an actual marine speakers. You will need space for about 7" dia.

If price doesn't matter and you want a true marine speakers the Wet Sounds and JL marine speakers are hard to beat but they are pricey. I have a couple friends who run the kickers you are talking about in the 6.5s and they are worth the money, but I feel the WS and JL are a definite upgrade.

Not that interested in "marine" as it will cost at least 2x as much and won't handle near the power of a typical speaker. I'll pull them out and see what size I need and maybe open them up a bit for bigger ones.
Price definitely isn't the biggest concern, but I'm not blowing a wad on 6" speakers. I'll check out WS and JL. Thanks for mentioning those. |

More than 20 watts that some of the marine stuff is rated for.
WS are looking good at this point Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 |
yeah, nobody is recommending BOSS audio here, but for what its worth, the Kicker marine KM65 has a 65 rms/195 peak and I typically drive them with 100W rms when used in a tower application. The Wet Sounds 650 series have a 100W rms/200 peak and ive driven those with 175W rms on a tower. The JL MX-650 has a 60W rms/225 peak. I dod 2 pair as in-boats last month driven with 150W rms to each.

I had a few boss separates in my last boat that sounded GREAT with a little power. I'll look at those too

I just installed 4 of the new KM65s with LEDs and am pushing them with the KXM400.4. They sound amazing for the price! I didn't think that a marine speaker would be necessary but we get water on them all the time. I know that the JL and WS speakers are pretty much the top end but they also command top dollar and honestly the WS speakers were too harsh for my ears. The KICKER speakers are very warm and full sounding.
