So which wakesurf boat to buy now?

I'm having some problems with an older thread I was part of - can't seem to reply on it, it keeps giving me errors?

In that thread I got some great recommendations on a particular Typhoon C4 for sale from Duffy. Tried to buy it - but it sold day before I was going to purchase!

So if anyone sees any killer deals on a Typhoon, Avalanche, Enzo, or anything else that they think would make a great wakesurf boat in the 22-23ft range, 07-08 vintage, I'm all ears. I'm obviously searching the web, but Duffy found one I didn't so I figured I'd put up a post and see if there might be any more out there.

Check http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.cgi?cat=cpboat

It searches all of craigslist for boats.

Not a horrible deal for what looks to be a loaded 09.

Call Nate at CBK watersports. It looks like he might have a used 2006 Avy and a new 09 Avy.

Other boats to consider would be a Calabria Pro V, Sanger V215, V230, V237, Tige 22v and 22ve.

08 Tige 22Ve in Charlotte NC. I've been on this boat, it's well kept.

^^ Mike isn't he 22ve the boat with the surf wake the platform cuts through? Maybe it was the 07? Whatever year it was the surf wake wasnt' very good IMO. I think tige fixed the issue ?

I've also been reading that the Sanger V215 makes a good surf wake... seems like a couple good deals out there on these. Any comments?

Brand New at $37k???

My concern is the interior space on this boat. I've read that the freeboard is lower to the water, and the interior isn't as cavernous as a Typhoon or a Calabria 23's. Any comments?

I believe that was the RZ2 you are thinking of. The 22Ve has a rounded platform.

It was the 07 to 08 RZ's with the squared off platform. In 09, they narrowed the platform to correct this. IMO, is wasn't major, and only really noticeable when the boat was heavily sac'd out.

The V215 is a great surf boat. The free board is lower than the others mentioned and smaller in the cabin but not necessarliy a problem. You need to take one out to know for sure. Sanger is a great all round boat, not just at surfing. If you want to match size wise with the other two you might need to upsize to the V230

polarbill 03-04-2010 1:54 PM

I am sure it is slightly smaller than the other boats listed. Check out the Sanger V230. It is roomier and has enourmous rear compartments for ballast bags. You should be able to find some good deals on left over V230's.

Not sure where you are located but I found some amazing options at an Epic and Sanger dealer in the Boise, ID area.

Check out Epics, you can find 09's lightly used for like 39k.... and 4k in ballast = surf

ralph 03-04-2010 2:22 PM

Has anybody surfed an Epic. We had a play around with one and the surf wake looked super short and steep.

sidekicknicholas 03-04-2010 2:32 PM

I would guess just lighten the rear and load the front more and it would make it longer

Dennis, the Master Weighter, had a go with one. From what I remember him saying, it was at a competition and they weren't too impressed with it. I believe the comments of it being very steep and short are true.

I cannot say enough about Sanger. They need to be checked into very seriously. I am beyond happy with my setup. When I get my new custom bags in this season, I will not be hesitant to say that I have the most complete surf boat in the sport class.
