Hmmm, just saw that GM announced a 4.5L Duramax for '09. Wondering if that will ever make it's way into boats or 1/2 ton trucks like the Silverado/Tahoe/Avalanche.

It makes 310hp/520 lb-ft. That would surely pull up a few riders!

More info:
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070615/FREE/70615005/1528/LATESTNEWS

That would be an awesome boat motor. I would guess that we will start seeing diesel wakeboard boats more and more in the future.

That looks like the same #'s as the original LB7 duramax when it came out. I'd love to see it in our boats! I'm considering upgrading to a duramax, now I've got a conundrum on my hands. Don't need the 3/4 ton truck, but want the diesel. But don't want to wait till 09..........

There is a Tige dealer that is putting diesel engines in Tige's. I saw them at the Wichita Boat Show earlier this year.

http://www.marinedieselusa.com/

He's done two. He's in my state. I've been in talks w/ him about doing their first Vdrive on a 22Ve. Right now it's not real cost effective, but We'll see where it goes.

MC also has a audi based TDI

Off MC site.
The Audi-based Turbo Charged TDI 225-6 is Volkswagen's most advanced marine diesel engine kicking out 225 horses of diesel power.

Diesel power is un-like gas I will never buy a gas truck again. I just hope they can make it affordable. Thanks for the 4.5L info.

(Message edited by raybyers on June 15, 2007)

(Message edited by raybyers on June 15, 2007)

What is the maintenance like on a diesel? My dad says that diesels nothing but a maintenance nightmare. He is referring to his friends that bought diesel trucks back in the 80s and 90s. Have the bugs been worked out since?

117K on my duramax and it is running strong.
I also have a TDI VW with 218K and it runs like it has 10k. so in my experience they are great. alot of the old trucks that you are speaking of used a gas eng that was converted to diesel so they had issues.

Leo yes they have been worked out. Europe worked them out for us. They have had common rail diesel engines over there blowing away gassers in mileage and reliability. I have 94k on a new diesel that all I have had to do is change the oil and filters on. Way too simple.....and it gets 40% better economy....
