Does anyone have experiance towing with a CRD Jeep?

I'm curious if anyone has any experiance towing with a Grand Cherokee CRD (diesel)?

I used to tow a buddies boat with my gas Grand Cherokee and it did fine, but the fuel economy sucked. I'm half considering buying something more practical (I currently drive a 2 seat convertable, that can't tow, or hold groceries, lol) but don't want a truck.

I'm intrigued with the prospect of a diesel, and the 7,400 pound towing capacity would be nice...

I think the Grand Cherokee Diesel is rated at 6700 lbs. I am not a jeep guy - but that is a pretty nice ride with the Mercedes diesel.

cwb4me,
What diesel SUVs do Ford and Chevy have?

The excursion had the option of the powerstroke from 2000 to 2003 IIRC. The 7.3. Not sure about current options though.

Excursion is out of production but did offer the Powerstroke. GM hasnt produced a diesel SUV since the 1999 Suburban. My guess is if Ian is looking at a Jeep Cherokee, he might not want something as big as an Excursion!

Having said that, if I was looking for a used SUV the Suburban/Yukon XL 2500 or the Excursion would be at the top of my shopping list. I own a Yukon XL with the 8.1.

Yea, Excursions are huge!

I have done almost all my towing with a GC, and would recommend them to anyone towing a boat that weighs less than 5000lbs. That being said, yes the fuel economy isnt the best.

Diesel is an option, but I heard they are extremely rare. That can present service cost issues down the road.
