I usually run a fat sack on both sides of the engine cover in my SN 2001. Someone is usually leaning on the engine cover and watching people ride. So I want to make some hard cases for fat sacks that people can lean on- making a rear facing couch... if that makes sense.

Here is a ghetto paint file of what I am thinking. The red is the engine cover, the yellow are boxes for fat sacs and the green is the rear cushion that came with my boat.

So my questions,
- Is there any reason this is a terrible idea? Yes people would have to walk on the boxes, but I think it would be easier than walking on fat sacks.

- If I make a new engine cover can I just use plywood and 2x4s? Or do I run a risk of fire?

- Any ideas for noise insulation for engine cover?

Thanks!

if you have a good way to still open/close the engine cover and walk from front to back then it would be a really good idea.

Yeah, the engine cover should open fine. And everything would be covered with marine carpeting, so I don't think walking would be too bad.

Have a look here

http://the2001.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=8 61&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90

This thread is for a ballast install, but the end result is much like the seating you are planning.

Here's mine:

It has made my 2001 so much roomier. It was gettig to be a huge pain walking on the sacs. We can now have eight people comfortably in the boat.

Hey Nate,

Check out the first photo in this link-
http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/175589.html?1088481307

I made a frame out of metal tubing that the old seat material snapped to. Worked well for years, then I came across a deluxe seat setup that I Like better so I sent with that.

Still have the frame and cushions...

bjeremi 06-25-2009 6:13 PM

Josh. How do the eight people sit?

billyjodonjimbo 06-25-2009 7:07 PM

Hey Luke,

Got any more pics of how the frame worked?

Any pics of your current deluxe seat?

lukeduke95 06-26-2009 9:43 AM

Hey Miles-

Here is another photo that kinda gives a better view.

Here is a photo of the delux seat. The seat base is plastic and has the rear cushion mounted to it, you can flip it around so 2 people can face backward. Then you can put a sack in the void. The 2 seat sides also have storage underneath but don't flip around.

"That dude is a mad genius...."

Haha. Your profile says Sanger now. Did you build that great setup only to sell the boat?

ralph 06-26-2009 1:53 PM

I bought the SN2001 as a second boat. I thought it would be cool to have one boat at the lake house and the other at home. The wife struggled to see the coolness and we use the lake house so much that I hardly ever got to use the SN so it had to go.
