I usually go to Castaic since it's close to where I live in Los Angeles. Even on a good day this lake is choppy like the ocean. Does anyone have recommendations to where I could ride? I'm willing to drive a little. I really want to ride something smoother than Castaic but I dont know of any other lakes around that are calm. Thanks guys.

I ride Castaic from 7am-11am on weekday mornings all the time.
It's butter.

join the ski club there, the cove that it is in is always better than the rest of the lake. You need to go to Castaic during the week not on the weekend. There is Piru which is close to you but i dont think that it is any better than castaic. you can go to elsinore or any of the lakes out in that area.

Before going out to Castaic I always check their weather station online.

http://www.castaiclake.com/uploads_upper/focl_w_new.htm

It will give you air temp, highs and lows, and most importantly wind speed and direction. It also shows you the wind speed patterns for the past 3 days so you can see if it's blown out or not.

I agree with the morning butter-- I love it there most of the time. But indeed it was blown out for the couple of weekends before Mem Day.

Looking at it this morning, it looks like it's been pretty sweet in the early AM. Maybe I'll see y'all out there tomorrow...

Buena Vista is another 90 minutes past castaic. You can find good water most of the time there.
