hey wouldn't it be awesome to go winching in DC? the big pool in front of the lincoln memorial would be an insane pool to wakeskate in.

power_rider 06-10-2007 7:34 PM

and probally and insane amount of police that would get you in an instant, but if you are willing to do that go ahead and try it. Just make sure that you tape you getting malled by police. It would be funny to watch. Yes though, it would be really sweet to do that. What other places would be cool?

it might not be any of the federal pools, but we (I use the term loosely as I was not riding) hit the 5 pool fountain at UMD a couple weeks ago...here are some photos: http://www.dcwake.com/photo-gallery/index.php?g2_itemId=4748

sick! i want to get into winching, but i dont have the money.

djiali 09-04-2007 12:32 PM

nick. there are several how-tos on building winches for rather cheap. The engine can be lifted off various power tools (power washer, some mowers, go karts, etc), the torq converter has to be bought, and the welding needs to be done by someone who knows what they're doing...just start collecting the parts and you'll be winching before you know it.

sweet, thanks. i actually have a mower sitting around in my garage...ill go check into it

djiali 09-04-2007 2:24 PM

nick, make sure it's a horizontal shaft...there's too much crafting required to make the vertical shafts work.

you can find a bunch of info at http://winchskating.com/

goatroper222000 09-04-2007 4:20 PM

i thout someone was planning on doing it.. they sed they were building the winch to look like a baby cairage and gunna have 3 or 4 peeps filming..wat happened to that??

djiali 09-04-2007 4:45 PM

many people have built them...dunno about the baby cariage one though

the one we used on the fountain was home made

fontain06 09-04-2007 6:18 PM

is there a way make the vertical shaft horizontal with some sort of gear box? or would that just be monsterously expensive...

fontain06 09-04-2007 6:38 PM

ok nevermind that...the engine is cheaper than i thought. but where do i find the torque converter and how much is that?
