Lake Sacrifices

What's the biggest sacrifice you've made to the Lake Gods?
We've lost a couple pairs of Oil Rig Oakleys to our local lake, among other things, and I hear that if you dredge OWC you'll find several GoPro's.

I have donated a couple Blackberries to the lake. The front pockets on a hoody are NOT a safe place for phones when loading and unloading from a boat.

Thanks for the laugh Seth, so true... My girl is never happy when the weekend is dedicated to riding, she stated bringing magazines to read near the end of the season.

I lost a gas cap, Oakley jersey, and a pair of SPY Logans this year.. Not to mention $1,000+ spent on gas.

Only thing I lost was my boat registration papers. Buddy was rooting through glove box and they flew out in the bag while I was riding. I saw it and almost caught them, had no idea what it was but lost it. Not a big deal. I have jumped in with my wallet in my pocket a few times, but never lost it. It's always fun paying for stuff with soaking wet money.

Back in the day on a relatives boat I lost the prop. Nut came loose when I hit reverse to slow for coming up on the dock. We had no spare so went diving. Found it about 200' away in 15 feet of water! Those suckers sure go far. Went to town for new hardware and was riding the next morning. lol

Really curious as to how you lost those.
My boat has managed to keep the damage to a few pairs of shades and a watch that had very deep sentimental value to me (until my new one showed up).

Dmcastino 10-18-2011 6:41 PM

A 6hp Johnson outboard with 2.5 hours on it. I had that literally half of a day before it was at the bottom of the lake.

radrachel 10-18-2011 8:57 PM

Ahh, but it ensures a good season, right?

wakebrdjay 10-19-2011 7:05 AM

Ben,left it sitting on sunpad, took off for marina, didn't realize til unloading that it had blown off.Saw someone wearing it a year or two later and got a good laugh.

benjaminp 10-19-2011 7:19 AM

Well at least your sacrifice was not in vain, haha.

newwhit 10-19-2011 7:26 AM

the worst has been keys to the tow rig. only took four hours for the spare keys to get to us! at least we had gas in the tank, so no worries!

Lol that exact thing happen to me! Except the keys weren't mine, and neither was the boat :(

stuey 10-19-2011 9:40 AM

I'll play... along with the normal shades, cell phones, and other normal junk everyone loses, we've had a couple good ones.

One girl lost her engagement ring.. we were outside playing football in waist deep water. She decided to take it off and put it in the boat in case it flew off while throwing a football. Ended up dropping it in the water right outside the boat! We walked to shore, borrowed a kids goggles, and searched for about an hour until we found it. Thankfully it was a pretty clear lake!

This year.. we lost a board. A friend came in from riding and just left it on the swim grid. We had to drop off someone else at the dock (we were close by) so we slowly cruised the couple hundred feet to the dock. I guess it had floated off at some point and none of my idiot friends noticed.. so by the time it was someone elses turn to ride we noticed it was gone. Cruised all up and down the river looking for it but it was long gone. Funny thing was, I found the same board on craigslist last week. It was the 'boat board' so it had been painted and decaled up.. it was one of a kind. Talked to the guy and gave him a $50 reward and he was cool with giving it back. Good karma for him for sure!

hockeysk8er222 10-19-2011 4:45 PM

3 ropes, 2 phones, a wetsuit, a GoPro, a prop, broken bindings, a broken knee, and 2 concussions. Decided I sacrificed bodily as well.

nuckledragger 10-19-2011 5:04 PM

Some old school sunglasses from back in the day, Oakley razorblades and a pair of Arnette's. A fishing pole left on the back of the houseboat overnight. Woke up to see it about 15 feet down, threw on a swim mask, dove down, brought it back up to find a huge carp on the other end of the line.

durty_curt 10-19-2011 9:24 PM

My turn: two ipod classics, one with h2o audio case and the head phones, two ipod touches, 5 sunglasses, two shirts, one umbrella, one hat, and some trash.

durty_curt 10-19-2011 9:26 PM

Oh, wrong lake.

sailing216 10-20-2011 5:24 AM

Week old Droid, 2 pairs of $500 prescript Oakleys, $2k switchblade and my favorite black hat

bcrider 10-20-2011 9:12 AM

One friend lost his wedding ring cause him and another friend were goofing off in the boat.
A friend lost the same style of Oakley perscriptions twice.
My iPod took a swim when someone dunked the nose of my boat and the iPod was on the floor.
Wrapped my prop twice on rocks/logs. Funny how now that I have a spare I've never hit anything again.

wakeboardertj 10-20-2011 9:17 AM

straight up cash money. Had an envelope with about 15-20 $20 dollar bills on the dash of the boat. I dropped my crew off at the beach and went back alone to go load some more stuff at the dock. While I was driving back I reached back to keep a waterbottle from flying out and the change in wind flow swept the envelope straight up in the air and started making it rain 20's. I cut the boat and dove off the back, I think I only lost a few bills, my crew on the beach saw the whole thing and were in hysterics.
