thinking of removing the decals

taking the wakesetter of the sides and tinting the windows. I keep going back and forth. Thoughts?

Do it, Do it, Do it

malibumatt 08-07-2012 4:02 PM

I second

Sooooo much better without the transformer decals...

RedRum 08-07-2012 4:49 PM

I was bored and did a crude photoshop job for you. Here is an idea what it would look like without the graphic and tinted windows

Thank you, I appreciate that! It looks really good. I guess I might be borrowing my wife's hairdryer this weekend...hopefully they come off easy!

Love the look without the decals. Malibu's lines are fantastic

Mahoney86 08-07-2012 6:21 PM

Id go for it... Ive seen a few Wake Setters without them and I think it gives the boat a much cleaner look. Looks my fancy and streamline compared to the bold and goudy wake setter emblems.

markj 08-07-2012 7:35 PM

I actually had better luck removing my decals by leaving it in the sun for an hour. I tried the hair dryer first but, decided it was way easier and came off more uniformly with the sun method. My two cents. Try both ways and see.

Up to you!

I personally prefer with decals! One thing to consider, is if you are selling the boat anytime soon, I'd keep them. Pulling them decreases the value of the boat to most people.

You are quite welcome.
Another thing to consider is how long has the boat sat in the sun. If the gel coat has faded any, you might still be able to see the "wakesetter" letters since the gel coat under the stickers won't be faded. The boat is newer and looks to be very well taken care of, so it is probably a non-issue.

tommyg 08-07-2012 8:58 PM

yup, the boat is only 4 months old and has been stored in the shade, so I'm pretty sure we're good. Maybe I'll pull her out on Saturday when it's supposed to be warm and see if the sun will make it any easier to just pull 'em right off.

My personal preference is truly 50/50, but i'm not a big fan of the bubble stickers on the Malibu, and would rather not have to deal with them...we've already had a few issues with them.

As for resale...we just sold our last boat after 10 years of ownership. Pretty sure we'll have this one for a good long time. Can always add stickers back down the road is what i'm thinking. Easier to put 'em back on in 5 years than take them off in 5 years.

Looks better without the wakesetter decals, those decals anyways. I would go clean with just the MAlibu chrome logo like seth mocked it up like. If you decide to add the wakesetter back on consider doing the 2007 silver edition wakesetter decal. I think it is much better looking than the one that is on your boat currently. Peter may be right but I bet the difference is very negligable. If you think going clean is hurting the value it isn't like you can't just buy new one's.

Only 4 months old? No prob. They'll come right off. Might wanna get a plastic putty knife but, your fingernails will do just as well. I see by your profile that you went to the dark side after having a Nautique. :-) That is gonna look awesome when you tint and pull the decals. Cool boat.

tommyg 08-08-2012 4:13 AM

lol....LOVED our Nautique, it was like a member of the family. Just got a smokin' deal on the 'Bu that I couldn't pass up. Enjoying the dark side too though :-)

scotthons 08-08-2012 8:17 AM

I think it looks very sharp without the decals, but you can not go wrong either way.

tommyg 08-08-2012 8:55 AM

btw...has anyone had a good experience with Rocky Mountain tint in Livermore? I'm looking for a good place close to Walnut Creek.

jperkinsttu 08-08-2012 1:44 PM

Pull em off. Sooner the better. I waited a year and half and didn't have too much fading but I also have a white boat. I like the classic lines as well.

brett33 08-08-2012 1:46 PM

Agreed! Pull em off!

tommyg 08-08-2012 4:32 PM

Thanks for the encouragement guys, you gave me the final push I needed. Incredibly hot day today in the 'hood, so I cut out of a meeting, threw on some shorts, and went to work. Stickers are now off, will post some pics this weekend.

Now I just gotta find a good window tinter. Guy in Livermore has a waiting list out to September, and Acme Tunes & Tops is a long drive and 2x the price of Rocky Mountain. Got a feeling that window tinting will add a really nice touch.

jesse1983 08-08-2012 9:48 PM

Rocky Mountain does excellent work. I know a lot of people that won't use anybody but them for their vehicles.

markj 08-08-2012 10:27 PM

There has to be a bunch of good window tinting places near you. You live in a very populated area with plenty of high end cars-half of which have tinted widows. Otherwise have patience and wait for the highly recommended local place. No one is gonna laugh at you because your windows aren't tinted. Your boat already looks cool. Do this stuff in the off season and enjoy it on the water while it's warm. My two cents.

very happy with how it turned out.

polarbill 08-13-2012 8:34 AM

Looks outstanding.

08-13-2012 10:09 AM

Nice. Looks way better. Super clean

theloungelife 08-13-2012 11:33 AM

Lookin good. I'm surprised more people don't do this. The wakesetter text is often way too gaudy.

brett33 08-13-2012 11:59 AM

sick!

markj 08-13-2012 12:07 PM

Good job.

tommyg 08-13-2012 4:00 PM

thanks guys!
