I know someone started this one previously...but my question is: Has anyone ever had something crack or become damaged during the winter? And if so what were the conditions? I live in central CA and the temp doesnt dip too low very often. Right now we have been staying in the mid 30's to low 40's at night. But it does get into the teens sometimes for a few hours in certain months. The boat has its canvas cover plus a cover over the tower and trailer. I feel pretty safe using the drop light technique on freezing nights...

Drop light sounds good to me. Open up the center bilge and put a light near there too to keep your ballast pumps in good shape.

Just got back from lunch with a friend... He was telling me about how he bought a new Tahoe fish/ski this year.... towed it down and put in the barn.. was going to tow it to Florida next week to fish out of, so he took it to the local marine repair place to have it looked over. fluids changed etc for the trip... Guy called him back and had the bad news..... block busted..manifolds..entire engine gone.. It was in the teens for about a week straight about two weeks ago.. So 5000. later he might be on the water again.. he didn't think about winterizing it... I think it was his first boat.. SO after laughing my ass off.. said bet you do it next year... Hell no.. i'm gonna sell it in november and buy a new one the next march.. LOL
