Hey, I was wondering if anyone has xm radio in there boat, because I just got it at home and it kicks a$#. Do they make a marine version or would you use the regular version?

Yeah it's great. They give you a discounted rate for the monthly service on your 2nd one too. Make sure that you get a stereo that has the XM TUNER BUILT IN , or you'll have to buy a seperate module that plugs into the back of an "XM ready" stereo. These modules can cost up to $300.00 in addition to the stereo. I just bought my boat and the "Xm Ready" Sony cd/stereo it came with had to be swapped out for an Alpine unit with a built in tuner, due to the un-availability of the sony compatible module.

I bought an XM roady and I can transfer it from my tow vehicle to the boat. I have a cd plug in on the front of my clarion and it works great. For the fireworks over the 4th we tied up and put in the FM modulator and told those near us to tune to 88.1 and it worked great. The only problem with XM is I still flip around from channel to channel. I just can't find one channel that plays everything I like.

I have sirius on My boat and it sounds and works great.

My best bud from college owns a marina in FL. He now puts XM marine radios in all of his boats. <BR>Last year we were in his fountain in the Bahamas doin 45 in 4ft. seas and it worked flawlessly.

what antenna are you guys using? I have had 2 through glass antenna specialists 8 inch antenna's go bad. The small puck type antenna's don't work for me in our local reservoir.

The only bad thing with XM it's hard to read the screen in middle of day. Program your favorite stations that way you not fumbling with it.

Anyone know any significant differences between Sirius vs XM?

Sirius has NFL and more channels. But I think it cost two bucks more a month.

Sirius costs $9.99/month now if you buy it for a year, I don't know where you would get that.

Sirius is not as good, it drops out all the time. They also play the same or very similar playlists on multiple channels. I heard Born To Be Wild on four stations in a 30 minute period on Sirius. <BR> <BR>XM is way better and cheaper and you can pay as you go. PLUS, the XM satellite is right over Atlanta so we get awesome reception here.

I've never had Sirius drop out except for going under a bridge.

Both systems are pretty comparable now. They are close in price and they both feature mostly commercial free (except for commercials for themselves. The difference is really coming down to programming and they both are very close. It's almost more of a question of what style reciever or add-on do you want. I like the roady because I didn't have to add any equipment.

i love xm delphi unit on the boat..had it installed at circuit city

I have the XM Delphi unit. I like the versatility of being able to pay one subscription &amp; pop the unit in/out between the truck &amp; the boat. However, the sound quality from having to use the FM modulator is not a good as it would be in using a head unit with XM tuner built in.

The XMD3 headunit in the boat was Sirius ready so I went with it. The tow truck came with XM so I ended up with both. Sirius droped the signal a few times at Shasta. Haven't had the XM drop signal yet but I never take into some of the places the boat goes either. Sirius has NFL but XM has NASCAR !

Love the xm in my boat. Never lost the singnal yet. I take the receiver from my car and hook it up in the boat that way I only have to pay for one subscription.
