When does the season start for you if you dont ride year round? Depending on weather I try and get out at the end of march/early april if I can get some sunny days.

This year is abnormally cold in dallas, tx though so waters may be colder longer

bigshow 01-04-2010 8:08 PM

How thick is the ice on your lake? Ha!

01-04-2010 8:08 PM

Its like 3 degrees in chicago right now. i wont be able to ride until probably may but might get out before then. if i were u i would jump in a wetsuit and get at it now. and what is "abnormally cold" 50s and 60s ?

helinut 01-05-2010 8:16 AM

dlwsrider 01-05-2010 8:20 AM

Well, it's supposed to be -2* on thursday in Fayetteville, butI'm still hoping for late march!

trdon 01-05-2010 8:50 AM

I am in the minneapolis area and water usually breaks open around the first or secon week of april. I am out within the first few days of ice out. Usually ride every week or 2 then until mid may when I hit it up a couple times a week from then on. Then I hit it harder after labor day because that is typically when a lot of people put their boats away around here and ice is back on around end of november. There is a lot of great 50-60* butter around that time and I am the only one on the lake.

andy_nintzel 01-05-2010 2:39 PM

My season starts next week in SoCal, but in MN we really dont get going till Mid March at the earliest and even then its crazy cold.

01-05-2010 2:45 PM

In North Carolina we ride without a wetsuit from March through November. Lots of people ride year round around Hyco or Belews Creek or even the eastern part of the state. I try to hit at least one run every month during the winter. Also, Florida isnt too far away so I get to ride down in Orlando some when its too cold here

chikara22 01-05-2010 4:22 PM

KDuff, I live in the DFW area and usually end season in mid to late January and begin the next season in early March. I rode new years day here out west and it wasn't too bad. Where do you normally ride?

ironj32 01-05-2010 5:21 PM

as soon as the ice clears in Minnesota(mostly clears)...usually late March

bcoutsfly 01-05-2010 6:39 PM

KDuff, Clinton is a power plant lake, if you ride next to the discharge it's usually 80-85. Usually get my first and last sets of the year there. There's one similar in Texas, I believe it's Lake Fairfield.

benjaminp 01-06-2010 2:48 PM

Last weekend in April for my part of Canada. But thats wearing a real thick wetsuit and taking some super quick sets. The real season starts about mid May.

lfxstar 01-06-2010 3:32 PM

This cold front in Florida marked the start of my offseason. It will probably go into mid february then i will start riding again.

wesley_is_wake 01-07-2010 10:21 AM

Brandon C, how long of a run can you make next to the discharge part of the lake? I've only been to Clinton in the summer. It was down to -6 in central Illinois about a day ago. I'll be lucky to get out by early May without a wetsuit in the good ole' Illinois River.

bill_sloan 01-09-2010 5:07 AM

I'll go as soon as the ice is off the lakes and it's nice.
Sometimes it's early March, other times it's May.

eternalshadow 01-09-2010 4:35 PM

May

duffmangt 01-09-2010 9:49 PM

will, I normally ride lake worth with occasional visits to lewi...what about you?

Brandon...thats awesome...i would love to ride fairfield if thats the lake!

baitkiller 01-10-2010 12:52 PM

As soon as the water gets above 80*.

Im a wuss about cold water.

dizzyg 01-22-2010 11:42 AM

watched them cut a tree down, onto the ice, then pull up a truck and huge trailer and load it up. Right where we ride! Going to be a while yet.

riddick 01-22-2010 12:01 PM

if Air + Water = 100 your good. I just worry about random night freezes in early season, so we start around easter and end on halloween.

spearing 01-22-2010 2:57 PM

Still snowmobiling we jump ice chunks in Michigan around April 1st.

the_muscle 01-22-2010 10:38 PM
