Dealer has a new control head for me but I don't want to pull the boat to them. Went to remove the head unit. Pretty simple process except that one screw is partially covered by the fiberglass dash. It appears the face plate comes off to gain access. There are 3 slots underneath the faceplate. Does anyone know if there are small allen head screws that you loosen to remove the outer face plate? It's kind of dark in the garage and I've tried a few without luck. Am I headed in the right direction.

I read in your profile that you have a 2006. Removing the stereo should be fairly simple. On each side of the head unit there are tall and skinny pieces of plastic. These pieces pop off and should show 4 screws, 2 each on a side. Take these screws out and disconnect everything out of the back (pig tail, remote harness if there is one, and rc inputs if any). The stereo should slide right out after that.

Hopefully that should answer any questions.

Thanks Jon. It is a '06 model. There was a bracket on each side of the back with 2 screws on each side. I can't get to one. The pigtails have all been removed. When you say remove the plastic pieces, are you talking about the ones that are on the dash as you sit in the drivers seat facing the head unit? Do they just pop off with a screwdriver?.

What brand of head unit is it? Does Supra use Kenwood like Moomba? If so, the Kenwoods I have worked on, you need the two "keys" to get it out. They slide in on both sides of the head unit to release the clips that hold it in, then it slides right out. The ones I have done, I beleive the face plate must be removed first, which can be detachable or it may have been screwed to the unit with a small kit that comes with it that screws the face on so you don't have to deal with the detachable face stuff.

Supra does use Kenwood but its a totally different model than the Moombas-no keys required.

Randy,

Yes, you can see the two grey plastic pieces on the dash on either side of the HU. Look at my attached pic. The red arrows show the two pieces that pop off. You should be able to get a small flathead screwdriver into the gap at the top of the head unit. They will pop off in the direction that the yellow arrows are pointed. Hopefully that will get you taken care of.
