Changing V-drive transmission fluid
Any body have any tips on changing the transmission fluid on a v-drive? I have read that there is supposed to be a drain plug underneath but I couldn't find anything. I'd rather not pump it out; but if that is the only way, obviously I'll have too. Any tips, tricks, pointers,or things to be careful of would be great!!

Just passing on what I have heard. Pump out with a turkey baster, replace same amount as pumped out.

Way easier to pump it out I imagine, and cleaner. No v-drive here but we pump out our direct drive. Speaking of which, if you have a transmission and a v-drive gear box, don't forget to do both with the mfr's recommended fluids

I have yet to change my Vdrive and transmission oil, but i will do it next year before the season. I would highly suggest a Pella Pump. I got mine from skidim.com and made changing my oil a breeze. I just bought my first Vdrive boat so a little anxious about getting in there and changing all those fluids, but the pella pump made it very easy to change the oil!!!

I change mine every year.
I started with this simple one: http://www.harborfreight.com/media/c...mage_16308.jpg http://www.harborfreight.com/multi-u...ump-66418.html Then I got one of these: http://content.westmarine.com/images...l/11047123.jpg http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...2#.UGTEyI1lSRg |
Thanks everyone for your tips!!
Anyone know what type of oil/fluid to put in the gearbox on the other side of the transmission? |
If you have a Walter v-drive it takes SAE30 non detergent.
