Hey Derek are you talking about the combination of a pop shuvit in the middle of a 360? If so, can you complete the two components fairly well? The pop shuvit and then also a 360? What I have "heard" is the key is to hit the shuvit early as you are rising up the wake. Centurion has a DVD of last years world's and there is at least 3 very good close up's of folks do a big spin. Also, if you can locate a copies of the now defunct WAKESURFER magazine, they showed a frame by frame breakdown of Collin Harrington do a big spin. Hope that helps

Practice on a skateboard or even just a deck on the carpet. Jeff, a (proper) bigspin is a 360 shuvit with a 180 body varial.

CASkimmer - you're right, it always looks like a 360 to me. CA? Would the best way to do this be to have the 360 suvit down and then also be able to do the 180 and then just combine them?

Hey Derek! I thought that was you! No, I haven't found ANY OTHER comp's locally. I was talking with Arun about wakesurf jam and they can't get the lake this year. The only other ones I've found were in Europe. Although we did hit one at the end of April in Arizona. There also "seems" to be something trying to happen in Arkansas:

http://mountainharbor.org/calendar.html

Check out the August entry at the bottom of the page...but when you try and get in touch with those guys, the number has changed and then who ever answers the phone has no idea what's going on AND the last time I checked they said they didn't think that could get a cove without waves?! Maybe we could all paddle in.

I find this very strange, if you look at the number of posts here, wakesurfing has just about has many as wakeskating in half the amount of time and every local event holds wakeskating events. I wonder why we don't see more competitions? Or more coverage from the mag's?

See you at the world's this year?

I have a 6'1" hyperlite do I need to ride with a smaller board in order to do a 360 and other tricks??

wakesurfer54 06-22-2005 8:02 PM

well i learnd 3s on a 5'8 neptune it depends o if u can get the fins to break free now i ride a phase 5 the really good for tricks there slick geting used to but once u do there great easy to break free and get the spin and great for shuv its u cant do a shuv it on that board i wud go with a phase 5

Yeah, Melissa, Derek's right the smaller the board the easier a 360 will be. But the depth of the fin has an impact too. Most of the skim styles have really short fins. Assuming you don't weigh 200 pounds you can go with one of the skim style boards which spin easily, or even the hybrids like the new Coex. Personally, I have found a board about 4'4" and 2" thick with 3.5" fins to be perfect.
