is anyone using a capacitor with their tower speakers? i am thinkin about putting one on mine when i do a speaker install in the next few weeks, everyone i know that does car audio tells me i need one, what are yalls thoughts on the matter? i mostly just hear bout using them with subs in the boat, my sub doesnt cut in and out but im wondering if it will once i have the speakers running off the same battery. also this is all goin in an 86 2001 and there is only room for one battery so we cant add to that, hope yall can help

Do a little reasearch and you'll see you do not need one especially on your tower speakers. There are so many arguments going both ways on caps. I think they are not necc. Make sure the "big 3" are adequate for what you are running and you shouldn't need one. Most companies overate the crap out of their caps anyways.

adam is right on the big 3... however, caps do make a difference with 'good' amps...

A capacitor is really only going to help with subs. Mid/high range doesn't draw nearly as much as a sub. Pretty much, hook it up and watch your volt meter. It it dips more than 2 volts when the bass hits, a capacitor wouldn't be the worst idea. I would rather use a second battery than a capacitor though. Put it under the deck of the boat. Also, if you do get a capacitor, figure 1 pharad per 1000 watts roughly.

the cap that i have is one pharad to 1000 watts so im good there. a second battery is just out of the question as far as i can see. my sub box takes up a lot of room up in the front and amps take up a lot also so theres not much left. i guess ill just have to play with it, i was just thinking that with the sub hitting and the speakers up that it might draw more than i can provide at times. maybe this is a dumb question but what are the big 3?

We must remember what caps are really for: protecting your power supply, i.e; Alternator and batteries. (okay and making sure that sub amp gets it's power) I feel it well worth it to cap my power supply then just run without it. In real life we should only worry about that sub amp, because it's the one that is going to have short term high amp draw, this is what causes havoc on power supply systems. Your tower system probably doesn't need to be capped, but caps are not that expensive compared to a couple of batteries and a new alternator. I don't know what kind of power you are running, but you can get a good hybrid cap from 5 to 25 farad and hook all your amps to it. Then you don't have to worry about anything. I have a 5 farad hybrid cap for 3000watts, a little overkill. I won't be replacing batteries or alternators anytime soon though. The questions of size isn't that much of an issue, becasue these hybrids are smaller than your convential rolling pin style.
