under $1000, go with Canon. <BR> <BR>if you're OK with tape the HV30 is currently the best quality camera under $3000. It's currently being replaced by the HV40 and can be found for around $560. <BR> <BR>If you prefer tapeless (I personally don't like the AVCHD codec) the HF11 ($850) is getting good reviews although Canon just introduced the HF S10 which is the 1st AVCHD cam I've actually been interested in.
