Flex!

rapha 04-27-2010 4:39 AM

hey jason, why didn't you buy the watson 2010 limited ones? they are the same price, aren't they?

delmage171 04-27-2010 10:22 AM

yah there the same price, i dunno. I ride boat all the time and cable sometime so i dont need to be to speedy getting my boots on and off. My local boardshop is possbily getting a system 2.0 this spring so I thats why i bought the board.

I figured the older style laces would hold up a bit better, not really sure haha

The boots are super comfy and the lacing takes no time at all!

shadow7874 04-27-2010 7:55 PM

Where do you guys get new laces from? i wanna put some colored ones in my indexs to match my 2010 trip

2010 Liquid Force Watson Hybrid Guys-
Do any of you guys ride that board exclusively behind the boat? I have been curious to try a hybrid/flex board, but I only ride behind the boat (no rails or sliders/cables).

I have also heard that the 2010 Watson (non-hybrid) is less forgiving and has to be ridden on edge. Can anyone comment on that? I love my 06 watson, but would like to get into a new setup!

Thanks

andrew_moreton 04-29-2010 11:52 AM

ALWake (Luker) is going to be your guy to talk about the Hybrid behind the boat. I think that's his main board behind the boat now.

Luker 04-29-2010 1:46 PM

Yeah man... I ride the Hybrid exclusively behind the boat.

My thoughts:
The board is nice and fast... way faster than the old Hype Premier and pretty similar to last years Ronix One (both boards I've ridden in the last two years)
Super fun because its a pretty loose board even with the bolt ons. One of the main reasons I went with this board is because after ACL surgery last year I rode nothing but rails/cable for 4 months (on a Henshaw Press) and when I strapped on a non-flex board it felt way too sticky and honestly kinda boring.
Pop is great and not once have I ever felt like the flex has "absorbed" any of the boot.
The board releases off the wake super early which takes a little getting used to but can be good for certain tricks.
The center of the board is pretty stiff so I honestly haven't really even noticed many of the flex characteristics while riding wake like I did the one or two times I rode my Press on the boat. Occasionally I'll take something a little too deep and tail heavy and the flex will cushion the landing a bit which is great, but other than that it feels like a regular board to me.
I rode Tevin's Hybrid at McCormicks and its super pressy on rails... which is evidence to me how big the difference in stiffness between the center of the board and the tip and tail really are.

Honestly I've had a lot of fun riding it on the boat and I've already stuck a few new tricks with it... not to say that the board is making some life altering difference in my riding or anything, but it absolutely has not hindered me in any way as some flex haters have led us to believe.

Don't go demo one unless you wanna buy it because its mad fun :)

James Bayliss, how do you like using the smaller slingshot 134 for your rail board? the past summer i was hitting some rails on my recoil 142. i'm 5' 11" 190lbs so for boat its great, but it just felt way to big and bulky for rail maneuverability and was thinking bout trying to pick up a smaller slingshot for rails specifically

Stoked on my new Byerly Conspiracy with Hyperlite Audio Boots for behind the boat. The board is sick.
I was interested in the new CWB Vide especially for winching. We will see how it goes. Looks like it will take a beating.

hoss33 05-05-2010 3:20 PM

Zane,

I love it man, im about 5'10 160lbs so it is a bit small behind boat, but it works great for rails or winching! I just like the feel of a small board for rails, it is super quick to sping while getting onto or off of rails, plus these slingshot boards are tough as nails!

etang789 05-07-2010 5:30 PM

Hey Im also considering either 2010 Watson or 2010 Watson Hybrid or 2010 Lyman. And I only ride exclusively behind the boat. I will be picking up the 2010 Watson CT Binding today to replace my 2008 Shane CT, but will still be using the 2008 Shane board for now.

So have you tried the regular 2010 Watson or Lyman? Any comparisons?

What do you think of the extra weight of the Watson Hybrid?

I have to say the graphics on the Hybrid is awesome!

Alright, it might not be 2010 gear but whatever. '09 LF Trip and '09 Ronix Franks. I'm a cable guy so I really hope the trip dies so I can get a slingy or something with crazy flex.

Erick, sick deck! i tried one out a few times and liked it a lot. have you ever ridden clear grip before? if you havent after a few sets you will not like it. it gets slippery really quick

No, I've never tried clear grip yet. There was so much detail on the top that I couldn't bring myself to cover it with black grip. I'll give the clear a tryout and see just how slick it feels. Worst case scenario, I can just pull off the clear and put on the factory-cut black grip.

i'm sure it's great! just got my 2010 Response last month and i love it! make sure you try riding with the fins off even just once, it's freakin' fun! it's so loose like you're on a wakeskate except more forgiving against the waves and such. congrats!

Jesse, I just ordered the exact same set-up yesterday (except I got the 143). Have you had the chance to ride it yet? Just looking for some feedback as I wait for my board and bindings to arrive.

jessemitchell 05-20-2010 12:36 PM

I havent ridden it yet probaly tonight though so I will let you know as soon as I hit the lake. but its super light and bindings fit on there perfectly

wake77 05-20-2010 12:47 PM

Looks like a fun setup. Appreciate any feedback you have, but I guess I should have asked before I bought.

I didn't anticipate buying a new setup this summer, but I broke two pairs of bindings in the past week, so I ventured to buy some new bindings, and wound up getting a board also.

Jay ~~ I had the same question brought up this week, I talked with the owners and sharpers and they say although there is similarity's these were specifically molded for Wakeology.
