A-20 vs A22 Wakeboarding and Surfing wake?

So last year I had the opportunity to test drive and ride behind an Axis A-22 at the Axis day on the water event they had at MN inboard. I spend several hours talking to Randall, Adam McCall and Matt Bishop which are awesome guys and had a lots of information and got my question answer on the A-22. I love the wakeboard wake behind the A-22 but wondering if anyone has compared it to A-20. The reason i'm looking at the A-20 is because I trailer the boat to the lake and put it in my garage so and 20 foot boat would be easier trailer and I have the option of a single axel trailer because the boat goes in the garage at an angle. Any info would be great.

I"m very interested in anyone who has dialed surf wake pictures..

chattwake 04-27-2011 7:11 AM

Don't know about the surf wave, but the wake behind the A20 is really nice. It's slightly wider than the A22 wake, but has a very very similar shape. My friend David just bought a '11 A20 and I have a '11 A22. Also, I've ridden behind Bishop's A20 on various occasions.

I know the wakeboard wake is insane... I am really interested in this boat because its very affordable, but I"m a bigger surfer then wakeboarder so that part is very important to me.. I am dying to see pics of someone who has dialed in a a22 surf wake.

I just got my A20 last week and by no means have it dialed yet, but I did take it out last sat and saw the surf potential with just the stock ballast and 6 ppl (avg about 155lbs). Surprisingly, even that light, the wave was pretty good. So needless to say once I get my plug and play bags the wave will grow substantially. I could probably use some heavier friends too lol. One thing I did notice is that the regular side shapes up way better than the goofy. Unfortunately I happen to be goofy. I'm heading out this weekend with a little more weight and I'll try to remember to take some pics.

CarFanatic5 04-27-2011 12:32 PM

please do! I am a goof rider as well!!

I"m worried about the swim platform causing an issue as well.

Thanks for the info guys

I want to see wakeboard wake pics! I went and looked at one today they look awesome!

mikeakatex5 05-17-2011 4:29 PM

wow sorry I really dropped the ball on the surf pics. I'm plumbing in my rear PnP sacs tomorrow and heading out this weekend. Maybe I will remember to snap a few pics this time.

CarFanatic5 05-17-2011 6:18 PM

yes please do!!!

spencerwm 05-19-2011 11:16 AM

I am going to surf behind a 2011 A22 this evening. I will take some pics. The surf wake is rad with a 750 in the rear compartment and a bunch of beer drinkers in the boat.

CarFanatic5 05-19-2011 1:02 PM

take pics!!

mikeakatex5 06-01-2011 7:59 PM

I finally got a pic from surfing last weekend on my A20. I also have a little video of some newbie surfing (yours truly), so be easy on the riding.

We surfed behind my friend's a20 last night. Here's what we figured out for that boat. No wedge, fill a rear 750 + factory tank on whichever side you're surfing. Center empty. Fill the front plug n play sac about 80%. At 12 mph, the wave was nice and clean on both sides with no one but the driver in the boat.

ckdollar 06-02-2011 9:36 AM

How much is an A20 w/ standard features?

CarFanatic5 06-02-2011 9:43 AM

wave looks washy.. is the swim plat form cutting into it?

chattwake 06-02-2011 9:59 AM

Wave looks pretty good to me. The water itself looks washy. My wave cleans up really well in calm water.

lakesurfer 06-02-2011 11:11 AM

I am not knocking the Axis, looks like a great wakeboard boat. But that is not a very good surf wake. The face is not clean and you can literally see the spray off of the swim deck.

mikeakatex5 06-02-2011 5:25 PM

Yea I have had a lot of wash issues and the platform does make quite a splash on the non-wave side. I will try the set up Chattwake mentioned next time out and see how it works.

mryan318 06-06-2011 11:30 AM

I surfed behind my a-20 yesterday for the time and the wake was very nice coming from a 2000 super nautique 210 the Axis surfing wake is tailer and long if you have the wedge up or down. I had the bow sag about 3/4 full and right rear tank and plug n play (750 lbs) full and the driver and three people in the back right corner. I am goofy footed. Next time I go out surfing I will try to take a few pictures.

CarFanatic5 06-06-2011 11:43 AM

pics would be great!!!

mryan318 06-06-2011 1:40 PM

Anyone put enzo fat sacs in the back of an Axis A-20 or A-22?

chattwake 06-06-2011 3:06 PM

Ok, here's the deal with the A22 and A20. To get a nice CLEAN surf wave, you HAVE to get the front of the boat weighted heavy. I simply did not believe this until someone I know from the factory came in town and weighted my boat correctly. Here's what we did. Factory surf side + rear plug n play sac full (about 800lbs in the sac I have in my rear hatch. WEDGE IN THE UP POSITION. Center empty. Front plug n play bag FULL. 11.6-12mph the wake was abolutely clean, with tons of push and a long pocket. I know, I know, I don't have pictures. I swear I will get some one night this week and post them. If anyone else has an A20 or A22, do yourself a favor and try this weight setup and you'll be wearing perma-grin the rest of the day. I was absolutely overweighting the back of my boat, which would still create a decent wave, but it had some wash in it. The way we weighed the boat this weekend, the wave was money.

CarFanatic5 06-06-2011 3:15 PM

chat get some pics please as I love the axis but I surf more then wake board!

you_da_man 06-06-2011 3:38 PM

How many crew on board when you tested the new setup Chatt?

mikeakatex5 06-06-2011 4:16 PM

I just ordered my front bow sac today from wakemakers, so I'll give it a try on my A20 once it comes in.

stang_killa_ss 06-08-2011 7:05 AM

damn 12 mph surfing.
i remember in the early days of wakeboarding we were riding at 16-18 mph lol

superair502 06-08-2011 9:56 AM

Can we see some a20 wakeboard wakes please? All anyone seems interested in is the surf wake

CarFanatic5 06-08-2011 10:06 AM

because we all know the wakeboard wake is solid!

chattwake 06-08-2011 11:01 AM

A.J. we had 4 people in the boat.

MikeyG 06-10-2011 4:37 AM

mikeakatex5 06-11-2011 9:55 AM

Chattwake, you're the man. That surf set-up was money on my A20. Of course I didn't take any pictures, but I will one of these days. What prop do you have on your axis? Mine came with the standard prop, and I'm a little frustrated that axis would let a boat with pnp on it have a prop that can't handle the extra weight.

IMO - Wakeboard wake looks very solid and the surf wake looks very average. Nice boat for the money, but if you are really into surfing that is not the boat.

superair502 06-11-2011 8:13 PM

I already know what the 22 wake looks like I was asking about the a20 wakeboard wake. I saw that video like 2 years ago
