help: 2012 watson hybrid 139 or 143

hey everyone, just wanting some feed back, im looking at the LF 2012 watson hybrid and not sure which size to get.
as of now i ride cwb 140
im 6' 180 lbs.
im a intermediate rider i think, quick list of tricks
HS and TS 360's
TS 540
backroll to revert, scarecrow

139 says 130-210 lbs, so i have some room,
143 is 170-250

im worried the 143 will be to big and i wont be able to control my tricks as i would with a 139, but everyone says 139 will drag to much for my weight.
ive always been a rider to just hop on a board and ride, but i think its time for me to get better gear that fits me better so im able to do more with my tricks.
thanks

For what it's worth I'm 180 and I ride the 143cm and I find no problems with it.

Could you demo?

Csbball 10-07-2013 7:29 AM

Thanks for the reply, what year and board do you ride?
No there is really no place to demo, I would have to drive about a hour,

ATB0713 10-07-2013 8:31 AM

Chris, i wouldn't worry about a 143 or 140. I've rode a CWB vibe143 at Hydrous, when i normally ride a ronix viva140 and it didn't take much time at all to get used to. If you're skeptical of either side just go with your gut feeling man.

ryanw209 10-07-2013 9:32 AM

I think it's just a personal preference. I'm the same level as you are and I'm 6' and 175. I rode both and went with the 139 Watson hybrid and never regretted it. The 143 felt more locked in than I like. The 139 is just more playful and fun to ride for my style. For reference I came off a 142 classic so I was concerned about the size drop also but I love it. Speaking of... I'll be selling my 2013 139 Watson hybrid in perfect shape if your interested.

Csbball 10-07-2013 10:39 AM

So you guys did not see much difference in your spins and flips?
Hey Ryan how much for the board, I won't lie I'm getting a ridiculous deal on the Watson hybrid new for 225. Everyone else wants 500.
Ryan was it easier to do your tricks on a 3 cm smaller board?

Csbball 10-07-2013 11:14 AM

When you guys ride a smaller board do you feel like it is dragging you, that's what everyone tells me, ill just be dragged in the water with a 139, which does not make sense if the board goes to 210 pounds.
How do you guys feel the pull is on a smaller vs bigger board?

melvinator 10-07-2013 11:28 AM

I think it depends on the board. I am 5'9" 160 lbs and rode an obrien nautral 144 for over 2 years and loved it. Swithched to a company severance 142 and it would not edge right for me, switched to the 138 and it was money. I ride the watson hybrid 139 and its perfect for me. I have a friend who is 6'4" 215 lbs and rides a ps3 136 and goes huge and never complains about drag.
If you are getting a sweet price buy both and sell the one you don't like.

Kane 10-07-2013 12:05 PM

I like Melvin's thought process, if you have the funds, provided you don't hit rails with them you'll sell the other one as new.
If you can only get one then go with the 139, if it drags (I don't think it will) you'll barely notice it.

My board is a 2011, but the shape has not changed just the inserts to M6 afaik.
I love mine (only ride cable these days), in fact I've just purchased another one for my trip to Florida next month (cheaper to do that than ship mine over) :) Can't give a better thumbs up than putting my money where my mouth is and buying another one.

To be honest I don't really notice a difference as far as being easier or harder to tricks on a smaller board. Where I notice the difference the most is how easy I can break the board loose. With the 143 I felt like I was fighting it and had to almost steer it around in the water. You won't notice any drag, especially going from a 140 to a 139. $225 for a new 2012 is a good deal. That's about what I'm looking for for mine

Orange 10-07-2013 4:00 PM

I've always been a fan of going for larger boards anytime you're in between, but much is personal preference. The swing weight difference isn't that much and in my opinion is more than made up for by a little more pop and speed. The larger board will indeed be just a little tighter feeling as it has more edge in the water. Because the larger board has more surface area, you will ride a little higher and come in to the wake with more speed unless you choose to instead knock a hair off the boat speed.

Personal choice and trade-offs. Any way you can test both before buying?

Csbball 10-07-2013 8:13 PM

alright fellas just so im clear because i need to buy this board asap lol
im comfortable on my cwb 140, a lot of you saying to jump up to the 143 instead of dropping 1cm and going with the 139. does 1cm really make a difference, that seems so little lol
thanks everyone for helping.
and tarek whats up, haha small world bro, i know where you stand lol thanks wish i lived by you seems like you have a badass cable lake set up

ATB0713 10-08-2013 5:18 AM

Chris,

I'm new to this whole wakeworld blog/chat thing, but i would go with the 139 for sure.

I am a traveling sales man i'm also 6' 175/80. I ride a 2011 Ronix Viva 140 when i'm at home. when i travel i always try and find a place to ride (cable or boat). The board selections I have are never a consistent size when on the road so i've rode many different sizes. If you're not super picky 1cm will not make a legitimate difference man. a 139 will be a little bit more fun to mess around with than a 143. However, with a 143 you will not feel like you are riding a piece of led. You'll still have total control, be able to hold an edge, carve it up, etc. etc. Personally i would go with a 139, because i like a shorter board. a 143 is simply just bigger...

melvinator 10-08-2013 6:13 AM

I think you could go 139 with no problem. My watson has the least amount of drag of any board i have ridden, i can hold on with my pinkie and ride no problem. I think flex boards have less drag in general because they flatten out a bit when you ride them reducing the rocker, thus less drag. I rode the humanoid 1-up at the beginning of the summer and it has a TON of rocker and i could feel alot of drag and my arms were tired after less than 5 minutes of riding. I have a very flexy phalynx board that i can ride at the cable all day and my arms don't get tired.

help: 2012 watson hybrid 139 or 143

I'm 6'1 and between 190-195. I switched at the beginning of the season from a 140 to a 142. A slightly bigger board was perfect for me.

501s 10-08-2013 9:14 AM

Im 5'9" and 155lbs and used to ride the 139. It was a good board but I found it a little loose. I'm riding a Ronix Time Bomb now and like it much better (I only ride boat). I think the 143 would be a much better choice for you. I found that the 139 almost felt a little small. The extra 3cm will not stop you from spinning an extra 180 or doing a flip, but it will give you a little more pop and softer landings.

Csbball 10-08-2013 3:07 PM

thanks for everyone suggestions.
After reading everyone suggestion i still could not make up my mind so i said **** it, ill probably get fat soon so i better go bigger lol

501s 10-08-2013 5:15 PM

Good decision and good planning for the future!

ryanw209 10-09-2013 10:00 AM

Let us know what you think when you get it

Csbball 10-09-2013 4:01 PM

I got the vantage open toe binding today, white on one side black on the other, pretty sweet. Should have the board Friday hoping to go out with someone sat, but I live in so California and nobody rides lol
