Polish and Wax Recommendations.
What does everyone recommend for a good polish and wax?
Thanks |
3M Marine wax

I've been previously using the Meguires Flagship marine wax, but was recently steered towards Driven's marine polish/wax. Ordered some up, and plan on trying it out in the next week or 2

Scott, were you not satisfied with Meguiar's to switch? Meguiar's Flagship has had very good reviews on Wakeworld. Also, 3M seems a popular choice and easy to find.
|
Driven product are top notch... hands down the best I have used.

I just waxed my boat this weekend with the Meguiar's Premium Marine Wax and it looks brand new! I think it does a great job, but I must confess that my opinion is probably void since I haven't used anything else. Ha!

No complaints, what so ever, with the Meguiars Flagship. It leaves the boat silky smooth with a great shine, and seems to be very durable.
I just thought I'd try some new products this year, so I'm going to give the driven wax a shot |
try the Driven Water Spot remover to. Wow... IMO, it works way better than Meguiar's Water Spot remover.

Just waxed the boat this weekend.... DRIVEN wax all the way!! Spot Remover excellent as well!
|
Where can you pick the up the Driven water spot remover? I'm needing to get rid of some water spots when I bring the boat out this year. Would like something a bit better than vinegar and water.

For every day use for water spots try Eagle One Wipe and Shine. That stuff works great and smells great too!
|
I ordered all the Driven products through Amazon
|
I use Starbrites polish and apply 2-3 coats then follow it up w/ West Marine's brand Caranuba paste wax, works awesome even with the hard water spots I get.
|
I use Meguires Flagship marine wax with there Polish. I full detail about 4 times a year. Key is to follow up with some kind of quick detailer after each use, like Babe Boat Brite. If you purchase babes products, go ahead and get a gallon of it.
|
has anyone tried poliglow?? it is not a wax, you apply mulitple thin coats . claims to restore gelcoat, i may try this on my houseboat, but would like some feedback first..

Turtle Wax...
|
Really like the Collinite wax, but have only used it once, and don't have long term results yet.
|
I buffed the boat with 3m 5973, and with 3m polish. Looks good. I will buy some meguires this weekend, its the only stuff I can get locally. I might order some of the other stuff you guys recommended this summer. I need something durable since the boat stays in the water for 2-3 weeks at a time.
Thanks for the help, happy shredding. |
You guys using the driven, do you use any wax or just the polish?

I had my boat detailed by a guy who specializes in boats, and I could not have been happier. He explained what he did to me.
First he throughly washed the boat to remove any abrasives that could have been on the gel coat. Second he used a water/vinegar treatment to remove hard water. Third, he polished the boat with several levels of polish to make the surface smooth and shiny! Gelcoat is VERY porous as compared to paint, so polishing is a different process on Gelcoat than it is for paint. Fourth, he used a SEALANT not a wax on the surface. He said that wax, especially on black will not last nearly as long as a Sealant. Also, a sealant will fill in some of the microscopic holes that are in the gel coat and repel hard water stains. I was VERY happy with the results. |
FYI,
the Second and Third pictures were before washing, and before polishing. |
For a boat i would use....
Polish: Duragloss Marine & RV Polish #501 Wax: Collinite insulator wax #845 I also use Swissvax Insignis on my boat but mainly vehicles. It's a bit pricey at $375 per 200ml |
David,
Do i see a Cessna and a Piper in that mirror like finish?? |

My boat is actually nestled in with 2 pipers and 2 cessnas. Unfortunately I can't pull the boat with the plane!!!
The old cherokee you see is a buddy's. I have a Turbo Lance, a 182, and a 172 (between me and my dad). |
david pierce, want kind of sealant does your guy use? Also, anyone know any good products to use on aluminum towers?

I wish I knew! My detailer is kind of one of these MAD Genius's and he brings all of his product in generic unmarked bottles. So...I am just dependant on him to make things look beautiful. I just know that he is amazing, and I have never been able to come close to what he does on my own.
|
Are you guys that are using the Driven products using their quick spray water spot remover every time you pull the boat out of the water? I'm assuming if I continue to use a mixture of vinegar and water after waxing the boat it will just remove the wax.
|
yes, vinegar and water removes the wax. I haven't used the Driven Water Spot remover after each time out but I am thinking of starting to do that this summer. My buddy does and his black boat always looks good.

Here are the results.
The meguires seems pretty good. http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/6927/boat002.jpg http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/9242/boat003.jpg |
