2012 Boat Thread

This is usually the time of year were the details on the new boats start trickling out of the dealer meetings and photo shoots.

I'm just wondering what everyone knows about the 2012 models from all the manufacturers. Any new technologies, models, options, etc?

08-01-2011 7:12 AM

Have 2012 Epic in barn now, going out tonight. New - no pumps to fill, all gravity based for the 4000#s. All wetsounds 14 speakers....new cut swim step so as to now cut into wave, and 8.2 Merc Engine with Cat. I know there is more but can't think of anything this min.

brainrinse 08-01-2011 7:25 AM

There's a new Moomba model for 2012... hoping to hear more about it after the dealer meeting today. Rumors are that it's a 22' pickle fork.

tyler97217 08-01-2011 8:13 AM

Holy cow NAW is alive!!!!!
I am extremely curious to see what comes out of the Skiers Choice dealers meetings. They have been pretty tight lipped on new stuff so curious to see any new models on the Supra or Moomba side.

New standard moomba tower, the new model was set to unveil at 11:30 so I'm sure I'll be getting those pictures soon.

tyler97217 08-01-2011 8:59 AM

Cool. Keep the pics coming...

wakereviews 08-01-2011 9:02 AM

yeah, that does look good. want to see better pics too!

ripr 08-01-2011 9:04 AM

I am too, Diggs. Looking forward to seeing whats new....I know alot of us SC fans have heard rumblings about some new things...but I ain't gonna spill the beans!

Thanks for the pic Andrew. Let us know the mojo on the new boat when you see it.

Haven't heard much from Correct Craft, Bu or MC. I know that Bu has the new wakesetter pickle...but not alot of details yet.

I'm definetly getting the itch to get a new one in 2012. The 2008 should be up for sale on Onlyinboards.com soon.

Another new tower pic, the boat is a dd outback

ian_ashton 08-01-2011 9:53 AM

The windshield looks different too, maybe its just the tower makes the side glass look smaller...

I'm not so sure on the tower, is that 1 5/8 tube? It looks kinda dinky...

wakereviews 08-01-2011 10:20 AM

that is the name of the boat? the mojo?

ripr 08-01-2011 10:27 AM

yeah, it's the Mojo.

bzubke1 08-01-2011 10:29 AM

Got any side profile pics?

jeff_mn 08-01-2011 10:29 AM

interesting nose.. almost looks like a deck boat inspiration.

07launch22ssv 08-01-2011 10:30 AM

boat is basically a prototype at this stage, not into real production yet. they estimate production will start in october.

chattwake 08-01-2011 11:15 AM

Def looks like a deck boat.

chattwake 08-01-2011 11:18 AM

The bow shape reminds me of this (but maybe its just the low quality photo/glare from the white gel):

ian_ashton 08-01-2011 11:35 AM

Ehhh. I'm a big Moomba guy, but that doesn't look very promising. That thing has like 4' of freeboard, it looks pretty odd...

here's a profile shot from facebook

jeff_mn 08-01-2011 11:57 AM

looks very sinkable for the size! hope the wake is bomb and Moomba can get some marketshare back from Axis

chattwake 08-01-2011 12:09 PM

I do like how the tower folds. At least there are no skulls incorporated into the graphics.

ripr 08-01-2011 12:48 PM

Hopefully all the manufacturers have stepped away from the whole skull/iron bird/Affliction (douche cape) look for 2012 graphics.

brainrinse 08-01-2011 1:10 PM

I need some more pix of that bow! The profile, tower, transom, platform, all look very promising.

newty 08-01-2011 1:27 PM

I'm liking the look. Looks to have some Supra lines, a MBish rear end and a malibu/tige-ish bow... ish. Cant wait to see it in person.

07launch22ssv 08-01-2011 1:34 PM

I just heard the wet surface is pretty much the only part that is for sure right now, the one they had on display is basically the mold plug.

ed_g 08-01-2011 1:39 PM

I have to admit...I'm diggin' this thing a WHOLE bunch!

Be awesome if this was the surf specific boat we have been asking for.

chattwake 08-01-2011 1:56 PM

Does that platform seem really low to anyone else?

+1 :d

brainrinse 08-01-2011 3:23 PM

That hull and platform sure hint that this is gonna be a surf boat. Hope the wakeboard wake is nice too!

ian_ashton 08-01-2011 5:15 PM

The FB pic looks alot better! The platform definitely looks low. It's a new shape too.

westsidarider 08-01-2011 5:18 PM

Ian- lots of freeboard is a good thing, yes it looks odd on the trailer but in the water it looks much better and the best thing is it enables more weight to be ran without worrying about water coming over when not at speed.

you_da_man 08-01-2011 5:35 PM

The bow on the new Moomba Mojo is God aweful...functional from the inside, but ugly. Platform and high freeboard does tend to hint at a surf boat. We'll see...Moomba's other boats (LSV and Outback V) accidently became really good, low cost surf boats. The platform looks to be solid or at least not just the usual flemsy platform that the Moombas are known for

you_da_man 08-01-2011 5:46 PM

Just noticed on the Moomba Mojo...playpen style bow BUT a walkway. I wonder how much bow ballast it will hold factory or is it going to be a small 400-650 center floor sac. I would be cool if there is a factory plug n' play bow sac available or standard IF this is a surf boat. If this hull turns out to be a great surf design it looks like Moomba with be to surfing (vs. Centurion) as Axis is to wakeboarding (vs. Malibu VLX, X-Star, and SAN 230)

Where on FB is this pic you talk of? It's not on Moombas page, go figure

rdlangston13 08-01-2011 7:33 PM

To everyone complaining about the bow, all it is is a pickle fork without the spikes sticking out on the sides. That being said all pickle fork bows are ugly to me, good thing they provide extra room for people/ballast, and throw good wakes. They definitely dont sell based on looks, at least not for me. That being said the platform looks WAAAAYYYY low on that huge rear end. that part is definitely ugly. i will be very very disappointed if this is a dedicated surf boat unless the LSV hull gets some major over hauls. i just feel the surfing market is very small in comparison to the wakeboarding market. i surf but only when the water is too ruff to wakeboard

razzman 08-01-2011 8:00 PM

The platform looks funny for one because the boat has more freeboard than any other Moomba. Many boats have them that low, Nautiques, MBs, Tigé. Many of those have transom cutouts that diminish the severity of it is all. I like pickleforks for their function, more bow, storage room and no spray. For me it's more about the function than the looks.

jmvotto 08-01-2011 8:20 PM

Can't really see the bow or transom when you are driving. I still like the classic look of the other moombas .

Looks a little like cab forward design of the chrylser cars in the 90's

Any other specs on the boat available yet?

Regarding the platform, here's why it looks too low to me: The draft seems shallower (or just as shallow) as the LSV. The surf-specific boats have more transom below the swim platform (more unweighted draft). I can't visualize this boat in the water with the swim deck at water level, it seems like there is not enough un-weighted draft for a surf boat. When weighted, it would seem the deck would be far below water level, and stay in the water (dragging) when at surf speed, which does not seem ideal.

I would trade in a heartbeat for a value-priced surf specific boat....

2012 Byerly Boat!

2012 Byerly Boat!
New fabric pattern layout. Pockets in the sides for speakers and drink holders, ILINC2 system deletes all gauges. The old keypad is gone - the new one is much simpler. 409HP for the 6l, up from 390. TE comes with Power Prop, No tower change, Battery switch relocated up-front, accessed from panel in bow-walk through. Digital amps - smaller than previous and gives you your space back in the storage compartment. New electrics etc....Love it!!

kmayotte 08-02-2011 7:03 AM

The byerly is so rad. How did they not have side cup holders before...

brett33 08-02-2011 7:10 AM

i really like the interior patterns on the Byerly..

crosenhahn 08-02-2011 7:20 AM

I like the look of pretty much all pickle fork boats!!! Can't wait to see more pics of the Mojo!

chattwake 08-02-2011 7:31 AM

Still not sold on that tower. Looks better on the the 210 than the 230 though, for sure!

wakecumberland 08-02-2011 7:36 AM

The screen only dash on the Byerly boat does not invoke confidence in my mind. And its ugly.

ixfe 08-02-2011 7:38 AM

Am I the only one who thinks the dash on that Nautique looks ugly?

Edit: guess not... I'm with Adam. Looks strange having it offset without anything on the left side. Totally lopsided... reminds me of this design fail:

http://images.thecarconnection.com/m...00280519_m.jpg

masterDraft 08-02-2011 7:41 AM

on the byerly, the mirror is attached to the walk trough. guess that means you have to have it closed when moving or at minimum when someone is riding. makes no sense to exclude those gracious enough to ride in the bow on a busy boat day.

brett33 08-02-2011 7:45 AM

def need to move that screen into the middle of the dash!

The mirror can be mounted anywhere on the windshield frame, that would be set wherever the boat owner liked it.

The offset dash location is very user friendly and was found on all 2010 200 and 200v Team edition Nautiques.

I will also say that it looks better in person than it does in that picture.

migs 08-02-2011 8:16 AM

the new byerly is sick, but the original still blows it away.

cjh1669 08-02-2011 8:40 AM

I like last year byerly boat better, but it has to be the most over priced boat out there. 120k for a 21 foot boat.........

I know it's been posted before but the 12 MB's have a lot of new upgrades:

Pop up pylon
Drop in Carpet
New underwater gear (the boat handles SOOOO Much better now)
Wetsounds sound systems standard (tower speakers optional)
New diamond plate style billet accents
MB logo in floor drain
New color matched interior inserts
New vinyl patterns
(new front top deck on the F21)
New vinyl textures
Extended steps on rear of trailer for easy access into the boat
New ballast switch location
No more electric engine cover, now three gas shock assisted hatches
WArming tray
Built in storage on outside locker hatches
New metallic gel options and schemes

Overall a LOT of changes from the earlier boat I had this season.

4Nash 08-02-2011 9:14 AM

Man thats nice!

nautiquesonly 08-02-2011 10:53 AM

That looks like a nice boat! I just don't get why everybody feels the need to put giant x's on the side of the boat. Mastercraft has the X series. Seems like other companies would want to be original. Yamaha does it on their jet boats with towers. My guess this was to try and hook the uninformed consumer. "It has an X, It must be a wakeboard boat!" I like the MB and have heard nothing but good things about them, I just don't understand why they couldn't come up with something better.

jmvotto 08-02-2011 12:03 PM

Nice looking boat

X is for EXTREME

crosenhahn 08-02-2011 12:33 PM

X is better than the flames and tribal marks they used to have on all of their boats. MB does interest me, very nice interiors!

I like the carpet in that Byerly boat. Looks nice. The pattern on the swim deck looks like a jersey laid out on top of it. LOL! Still nice, just looks like someone laid out their shirt on the back of it.

* New helm configuration with touch screen BIG

The black and silver MB on the trailer and the one on the water just looks awesome. Can anyone tell me how high the MB sits out of the water. I think it's about 31" just wasn't for sure?

Mastercraft Tower......still ugly!
