Best board for bigger guys?

Anybody have any imput on the best board options for bigger guys? Im 6'2 230 and do nothing but boat riding.

skiboarder 04-03-2013 7:01 AM

It might seem that I push the District hard, but it has a good price, a lot of surface area and is super easy to ride--and ride hard. I would look to the 143 park edition. I know you only ride boat, but in general it is a much meaner board and if you did ever find yourself at a cable, you would be all set.

dezul 04-03-2013 7:18 AM

What is your riding style? Do you like the loose feel of a board or do you like it locked in? What is your skill level? What boards have you tried?

simplej 04-03-2013 8:27 AM

My buddy weighs a bout 240 and rides a slingshot response 145. It's too much board for me at 200 but he seems to really like the extra speed and pop he gets, easier on the knees when you're pushing north of 200 lbs too....

TheHebrewHammer 04-03-2013 8:28 AM

The best board for a bigger guy is one that is the right size for him, i.e. 142+.

chelms2206 04-03-2013 8:48 AM

Ive had the Parks board and the Harley board. I liked the feel of the Harley board more than the Parks. Im pretty basic/beginner in skill level and wanting to progress more and be on the right board. I have heard the CWB Marius is a good one for bigger people but have not gotten a chance to try it.

hillbilly 04-03-2013 1:37 PM

If you can try boards give the CWB Faction 144 a try. Im 6'2 230 and Iride a Marius and have a
The Faction is like a caddy to me, if I happen to come up short it mashes through the wake without buckling my knees.
I also really like the Marius, to me easier to throw around then the Faction but both land soft.
Just picked up a 147 Vibe but have not took it out yet. I got it for the cable opening up close to my house in a few weeks....lol

CHern5972 04-03-2013 4:04 PM

ronix one 142

ronix one 144 parks

As Justin said in his post.

chelms2206 04-03-2013 5:00 PM

Thanks for the info Jeff I found a 2012 Marius and picked it up and gonna give it a try. Have you tried the CWB bindings? If you have what's your opinion on them? I was leaning towards the system bindings to try them out but not real sure.

simplej 04-03-2013 5:09 PM

i dig the cwb bindings A LOT, not as much as my slingshots but a close second. Def give the new ones a try... i loved the answers

hillbilly 04-03-2013 10:18 PM

If the Marius is too loose for you try to get a bigger Faction fin. It gives it more control, I hope you like the Marius....I love it but am trying to force myself to ride my Faction.
I have the '11 CWB AA bindings and love them. If you want a lightweight flexible binding the JT's are Super Comfy!!! And very reasonably priced.

burn229 04-18-2013 9:45 PM

I'm 6"1 about 215 and I've ridden the 140 Marius, 142Transcend, 142 Murray, 145 Marek, and 146 Timebomb. I have about a season on the Transcend and Marius and I snapped both boards in half... My recommendation would be the Marek . It lands great and gives me the most pop out of all of them. The Marek and Timebomb never gave me that sinking feeling like the other boards did. The Marek felt more buoyant for me if that makes sense. Go with the 145 Marek you won't be disappointed. Oh and go with the Bio core your will snap a Nova in half because your size.

Either way you go you need surface area and a faster board because of your size. I believe the Marek and Timebomb have the most surface area out of all them.

bruizza 04-19-2013 9:02 AM

I am around your size but a little smaller. 6' 220. I have broken just about every board in the Ronix line up so I would steer clear of them. The Ronix rep recently told me their new ones won't break but after breaking quite a few of the "old" style I can't justify the price of a new Ronix. Anyways after breaking my last Ronix board I switched to the Watson Hybrid 143. I haven't had a single issue with it.

burban89 04-19-2013 5:56 PM

I am 6'4 and range from 220-250 ( winter fat ) and have tried a bunch of boards but am still searching for the right one. Murray, Lyman, and Witness all landed pretty soft for me. Trip and Vahalla not so much. I picked up a 2012 Hooke for this season and hope it is what I am looking for. Out of all the rest the Lyman was my favorite.

I do ride CWB bindings and love them. I have had the Torq, Zeus and now the Factions. I would reccomend them to anyone and will stick with them.

superair502 04-19-2013 8:19 PM

Try the Hyperlite Marek 145! Amazing board, fast, ton of pop, lands soft. Does everything well more than any board I have ever ridden. FYI I am 205lbs and 6ft tall, board is a little bigger for me since I dropped a few lbs but man I really love it

wakesetter1989 04-20-2013 9:36 AM

Hey Cory,

I just wanted to add my opinion to help out a fellow "big guy". I am 6'4" 220lbs and last year I upgraded from the Hyperlite State 140 to the Hyperlite Marek Bio 145. Wow what a difference. The extra surface area really makes a difference. There are lots of good reviews out there about the Marek. It makes riding so much more enjoyable and easy. This year I upgraded to the Systems and look forward to riding them. I hope this helps. You cant go wrong with a Marek. Good Luck.

burn229 04-20-2013 6:17 PM

The Marek being a good big guy board makes sense. The guy who helped shaped it is a bigger rider. Correct me if I'm wrong I think the only other pro that is even close to Rusty's size would be Andrew. Most of the pro's are short smaller guys.

superair502 04-20-2013 8:46 PM

Danny Harf is about 6 ft 190-200 lbs but after that yea most are under 5,10

photoguy 04-20-2013 8:51 PM

I run about 280 LF Trip 146

ROCK THE MAREK AND NEVER LOOK BACK. I have broke countless boards in the last 18 years and this is the strongest by far. Great speed, pop and landing.

This is not a great photo - but I'm 6'3" and was about 325 lbs in this photo. Of course the MB Tomcat helps a little :)

dvsone79 04-23-2013 8:05 PM

Another vote for the Marek. I'm 6'3" 200lbs, and I ride the Marek Bio 145. I love it. It's got good pop, even better response, and most of all, holds speed into the wake.

superair502 04-23-2013 11:00 PM

The new marek is way way way more forgiving as well! That old one would rock you out of nowhere sometimes

bigpapaf1f 04-24-2013 12:06 PM

I'm a big guy myself, I have rode a lot of different boards over the years. As a big ride the main thing you want to look for is wider boards, and the wider the tip/tail the better. I have rode the Marius since 06. IMO the 08-10 Marius was the best shape ever made for a plus size ride. The current Marius is a great shape also. This year I am riding the 13 faction. Wide board thats fun to ride. Love my Marius. Just wanted to change it up a bit. I have never rode a Marek, but it looks fun. I will take Buff's word for it, he is a good rider and knows his stuff. One more tip I could give you for a big rider. STAY AWAY from flex boards for wake!!!! You can ride them on cable, but DO NOT ride one on wake. If they flex at the wake with 150lbs rider. A 200+ ride will flex them out and get no pop.

Also if any of these big riders are in Cali. The Friday at CIE spring ride we are having a big guy class. I have teamed up with nor cal INT and have put together a big guy division! Should be a lot of fun. Diff rules than a normal class. Should be fun.

Buff are you going to ride in it??

hillbilly 04-24-2013 12:32 PM

BG.....Im doing the same as you....lol
But the Faction seems slower to me.......It rides like a caddy though......It just edges different to me.

Am I crazy or does it feel the same way to you????

robandrus 04-27-2013 6:58 AM

6'4 - 225lbs
I've been riding the Byerly Monarch 56 for a couple years now. Its an awesome board, feels very light on the water, with great pop, super easy to break free if you want to slide, but somehow always holds an edge when you want it to. I got the old school one with the PVC core, it feels lighter with better pop.

robandrus 04-27-2013 7:12 AM

Not to change topic too much..Helpful I hope, but what about boots? Finding anything that fits good in size 14 is crazy, I'm still rockin my old school open toes, but ready for something new.

gwake1989 04-27-2013 10:33 AM

Hey Rob,

I'm 6'4 220 and have some 2012 Liquid Force Transits for sale in the classifieds section. They fit size 12-15. I wear a solid 13 and they are very very comfortable and very supportive. You would be more than happy with those, they are an awesome binding. If you have any questions, let me know. I only rode them a few times and they are in 10 out of 10 condition. They are great "bigger guy" bindings.

gwake1989 05-03-2013 2:44 PM

If you are still interested in those bindings, they are still for sale.

digg311 05-03-2013 4:50 PM

I'm 6'0 280. Currently on an O'Brien Decade 144. Good board... but I'd love to give the Marek 145 a spin.
