I watched it. Amazing!!! Sucks he didn't get the freefall time WR, but still, I think I would have filled my suit just thinking of stepping off of the capsule.

That was awesome! A couple of my friends at Red Bull said that they had 10,000,000 live views on youtube. The previous record for live views on youtube was 500,000 so they shattered that record!

This was really cool to watch. I picked it up at the two hour mark and it was captivating. So many things had to go right to pull it off. I didn't realize that in a vacuum you have zero ability to control your fall - it was crazy seeing how fast he was tumbling at 800+ mph. The thing that amazed me is that the guy calling out the instructions was the guy whose record he broke from 1961. How in the hell did they pull this off in 1961? Holy crap.

What I can't understand is how a parachute can open after falling at those speeds and not rip to piece?. I would have thought he would need a trailer chute or something to slow him down a bit before deploying his main? Would be one hell of a rush either way.

Phatboypimp: I thought the exact same thing. Actually, I have thought the same thing about a lot of amazing air and space records from the 60s...Those guys must have had balls of steel. Back in the day, science was cool because you had to be a badass to do it.

I think stunts like this and the Mars rover could create a new generation of scientists, engineers and physicists.

This whole program was scary - but I can't imagine what it felt like to step off that edge. I remember my fear of jumping out of a plane for a short free fall but I was pretty sure I wasn't gonna die. This lunatic fell and broke the speed of sound. Good god.
