I like my foam top form many reasons. Newbie’s with no shoes can always give it a try, plus it feels good to go shoeless and free ride… When unable to land a trick sometimes I’m able to keep a foot and sometimes a leg on the board so don’t have to swim to get it and the foam won’t take hairs off or give strawberries. I wear Byerly Reef’s on the Hyperlite Catalyst and get a ton of grip.

grip tape = way better grip than foam

I dunno, I've ridden both and I feel like my feet slide a lil more on grip then on foam, my feet sink into the foam and I feel like I have a little more control. I dunno tho, the grip does have a good tru skate feel to it. I think really it comes down to personal preference I don't think you could say that one is better than the other. My next skate I'm getting with grip just for something different but I still love my cassette with the foam grip. If you can try both and see for yourself which you like better.

grip, foam sucks

Another reason for foam...Grip scuffs up seat skins and body skin.

Go for foam. It works just as well with shoes, and allows everyone in the boat to use it. Also, as mentioned earlier, much more friendly on you and the boat
