Hi all, <BR> <BR>We currently have the standard windshield-mounted comp mirror, but are looking into a tower-mounted setup. My fiance has a hard time seeing with the current mirror because it doesn't provide a very good field of view. It doesn't bother me too much, but I want to give one a try both for her and also to see what I may be missing... <BR> <BR>I did some research here on WakeWorld and found some good input, but I'm looking for a bit more input for my specific situation. <BR> <BR>Some of the articulating ones are pretty cool looking and the adjustability is intriguing, but I'm not sure if they would be a good fit for my specific setup (Malibu VLX with Titan tower) since the front tower leg is pretty far forward. I'm thinking maybe a more simple, fixed type of mirror would do the trick. Any thoughts? <BR> <BR>It would be nice for the mirror not to slip after driving doubleups. While I didn't use it on the boat on the lake just on the shoowroom floor, it did use the same mirror but I beleive you can get the larger Cipa mirror as well. I did like the setup clean and didn't obstruct the view. As usual the design and craftsmanship are top notch.

Gotcha, thanks. I'm in between the Boss simple articulating one and the Titan one. I like the plastic inserts on the Titan mount that allow a ball-and-socket type of joint on the tower leg. Not sure if I can justify the $200 for the Titan when Buywake has the Boss for $99, though! <BR> <BR>Danny

Don't get articulating mirror arms. I never had luck with those.

I have the mirror arm pictured on my Titan III and love it. I'm not a big fan of mounting a mirror to the windshield. Been in boats with both and it's really just a personal preference thing, but I'd much rather have a tower mounted mirror. I wouldn't hesitate to get one and your current mirror will probably work if you just get the arm.

So, I bought the Boss arm and was very dis-satisfied with it. When I called and pointed out several problems with it (including a blatant manufacturing error), I was told "Well, just wedge some rubber in there..." and "Well, just run a drill through it...". No thanks, buddy. I wasn't even offered a "Hey, we're sorry it doesn't seem to work, let's see what we can do to help." Last time I checked, I as a customer shouldn't have to fix your eff-ups, especially after spending $100 for a brand new item that doesn't work out of the box. <BR> <BR>Anyway, I'm planning to return it and am now focused on either the Titan one pictured above by Malibudude or just a simple fixed one like Skylon offers. <BR> <BR>Anyone have real-world experience with the Titan mirror? I like the idea of the plastic inserts, both for the "heim joint" action it would give and for the fact that it would avoid metal-on-metal contact with the tower. I'm just concerned that it's going to move when driving doubleups and I don't want to have to re-position the assembly all the time. No one has any other experience (positive or negative) about either the Titan mirror mount or the fixed Skylon mirror mount? I couldn't see sp0tts' mirror (seems like he either forgot to attach a pic or thought he had a profile pic) and Malibudude hasn't physically used the Titan one. <BR> <BR>I'd really like to hear from anyone who uses their boat for serious riding regularly and has feedback about either of these 2 mirrors (or any other for that matter). <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR>Danny

Hey Danny- <BR> <BR>I work for Titan, so obviously you'll want to take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'll try to offer some unbiased input on our mirror arm versus the others, because I've used most of them out there. <BR> <BR>We designed the Articulating Mirror Arm to solve a problem that our customers were encountering when trying to use tower mounted mirrors on our tower. Because the front leg of the tower slants in towards the middle of the boat, almost every other mirror arm (even the articulating ones) will position the mirror so that it's tilted slightly off-axis to the driver. Here's a picture of one of those mirrors on my boat before we offered the Articulating Mirror Arm: <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/586346.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR> <BR>The fixed arms are even worse because without the joint there is no adjustment. Jason, thanks for the reply. The mounting system you quote sounds like an innovative solution to the mounting problem with fixed mirror arms. In the pic you showed above, couldn't you just swing the link with the mirror up a bit to straighten it out? And then you could slide the tower clamp up or down for height? I haven't personally used one of those 2-link articulating arms, so I can't directly attest to how they attach and adjust and I'm likely missing some aspect of the problem with that type of mirror. In any case, I won't be using a 2-link articulating arm since as far as I know, Boss is the only one who currently makes one and I had a less-than-favorable experience with them. <BR> <BR>Again, your product sounds awesome, the <b>only</b> thing I'm worried/skeptical about is whether or not the Titan mounting system is going to move everytime my chick drives me a double up... <BR> <BR>It's a nice arm but also pretty expensive at ~$200 and I don't want it to be clapped out moving all the time. Well, it's kind of a moot point, since no one currently makes this style mirror arm (like you mentioned), but unfortunately there's just no way to adjust one of those mirror arms to work. Because the plane of the hinge isn't vertical, if you pivot it out any more the mirror ends up facing back towards the port side of the boat, and there isn't enough adjustment where it mounts to the end of the arm to square it off. Trust me, I spend A LOT of time trying to get it to fit right (including machining a few new pieces). That was back in 2002 when there weren't really any other options, so I tried what ever I could to get it to fit. Ultimately, the trouble I went through is what led us to the Articulating Mirror Arm. <BR> <BR>The way our mounting system works may be a little misleading, so let me expand on the process of installing the mirror a little. The shims protect the finish of the tower, and offer a convex mounting surface that is mirrored by the concave mounting surface of the mirror arm itself. After assembling the mirror arm on the tower, you can adjust the position so that it's perfectly centered in front of the drive. At that point you tighten the two mounting bolts, which locks the mirror arm in it's current position. You can always loosen the bolts to reposition the mirror arm, but when they're tight, it's a completely solid mounting system. I've put over 500 hours on a boat with our mirror arm and it doesn't move at all, regardless of how hard you hit other wakes. <BR> <BR>I completely understand your hesitation to fork over that kind of cash, but I think once you see the product in person, and get to experience how well it works, you'll agree that it's well worth the small premium.

Jason, <BR> <BR>I will definitely take your word on the 2-link arms. Makes sense, I just haven't personally experienced it. <BR> <BR>Thank you for further explaining the Titan mounting system. That alleviates any concern I had over the mount allowing movement. I was under the impression that the mount was sort of a stiff "heim" joint type of thing where you could readily grab and re-position, and it relied on an interference fit with the plastic inserts to provide enough holding power. Thank you for correcting me and making it clear that once you get the mount placed where you want it, you snug the bolts up. I have no doubt that the mount will hold solid. <BR> <BR>Based on what I've seen with the existing 2-link systems, solid mount systems, and other articulating systems, the Titan one looks like my best bet and I'm going to go ahead and buy one, regardless of the somewhat higher price. I’ll gladly pay your company $100 more than the last company I worked with. I like the plastic inserts and the build quality looks much better (not to mention the customer service, and I’m not even a customer yet). <BR> <BR>Do I need a ball-mount mirror or will my stock post-mount mirror work? <BR> <BR>P.S. You guys should really get some info up on the Titan website explaining this mirror fully. Good, I'm glad that info helped. You can use the same CIPA mirror that came with your boat, it will slide right onto the end of the mirror arm. <BR> <BR>We're well aware of the lack of information (to put it nicely) on our current site. We're actually working on a completely overhauled version right now, that should be up soon.
